Overture PPC Discussion

I would imagine it depends on surfers "habits" I started using Yahoo has my default homepage before I was interested in being a webmaster, and still have not changed to this day. I have the Google toolbar installed, so whenever I need google I just go right to the page from there. I go back and forth when doing searches on the internet.. :D

I went from lycos.com to hotbot.com .... to google.com and ask.com .. I've NEVER used yahoo, aol, msn, etc.. in my life for any reason other then to find out where I was... so I definantly agree with brigid it depends on habits

i have always been a yahoo man. not quite as macho as being a marlboro man, but much healthier :) i still consider yahoo to be the premium portal on the internet. my main problem with overture is the extremely high cost of the PPC. you can't blame them for that. i blame the idiots who have bid the keywords up beyond reason. the traffic from overture converted pretty well. there are two occasions which were upsetting. two seperate times, overture came in an zapped $250 worth of money for one nights traffic (this is for a money website). that is when the normal night was around $30. not cool. they didn't do anything about it. i finally dumped them when i got my rankings in the top 20 on yahoo.

i would say that yahoo has a definite advantage on the portal. as they have introduced SBC/Yahoo Dial, DSL, Webhosting, and every other thing that they can do to generate money. you can customize your start page to whatever you want it to be, and most consumers will go for this. they are on the 'invisible' internet.. not to mention the fact that David Filo and Jerry Lang are numbers 15 and 16 (respectively) in Forbes 400. they obviously must be doing something right! as for the ppc, i think a yahoo listing under the appropriate category is a better bet than paying for affiliate traffic that has no intention of using whatever it you may be offering for sale, they themselves are looking to get paid without doing actual 'work' my little opinion, anyhow...

**off topic a bit here, but actually the Top 25 of Forbes 400 are all in the "computer biz" in one way or another**

I think Yahoo buying Overture is a pretty telling sign. What it tells us I don't know but it sure is a sign of changes to come.

Overture is a pretty decent return for me.

Yahoo probably would like to get their hands on just about anyhing that gives them the opportunity to earn more money. The fight for eyeballs is what is most search engines/ portals are lookng to aquire, in my opinion. the more eyeballs that you have the greater the chance that you can capitalize on them.

yahoo is a money making machine. they are now into "fees" very heavily. their integration of the PPC engines they bought is going to add A LOT to their bottom line. plus they will save money through "synergy".
