google cannot be beat

It seems that some folks just can not get away from the spyware that is not only trouble for computer users, now it is costing Google big money. So it seems that what goes around comes around. ALL SPYWARE AND ADWARE SHOULD BE OUTLAWED! Period..... Next these guys will be riding along on toolbars, spyware on spyware http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5250383.html?tag=zdnn.alert Well Edwin your figures are way off, Google's share of the search market is only 41%, so where do you get 80% Please explain why you feel that Google is going to stay the leader after spyware software is outlawed. Please refer to the above article and address the issues within.

its at least 80% i will dig up the figures!

I did the work for you Edwin. http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=464 Now you analize it. Google has 44% in the USA, much more in other parts of the world as you will see. Now get to posting, tell Oneill to get on the ball for me 8O

My logs show Google delivering over 75% of the traffic. Keep in mind, Google delivers the results for many traffic partners, including AOL, Search.com, MyWAY, Hotbot and others. The problem with Yahoo delivering the same type of volume is there lack of commitment to free search. The first free results appear under the fold. MSN is going to be a real competitor. There search engine is pretty lame now though: http://techpreview.search.msn.com/

Edwin, here is another article on the subject at hand. http://www.mediapost.com/dtls_dsp_onlineminute.cfm?fnl=040430 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O        8O 8O 8O

I didn't read this entire post.. but caught the gist of it in the last few posts.. Forgive me if I speak outta turn.. but this is comments based on the last few posts only... Hey... I gotta up my posts somehow... and it will take me a year to read everything ;-) Google bringing out its gmail has got Yahoo and MSN running for cover, because they know Google is number one and isn't likely to go anywhere... (Gee.. color me suprised when a short time after gmail launched all of a sudden I went from 70% full mail box in my yahoo to 7% and all kinds of space!) When they fixed their [i:06d6bb2517]Florida [/i:06d6bb2517]problem they saved their a**es... Google has such high press that no other search engine can or will compare for at least the next year, maybe two.... Too many people do not trust MSN/Hotmail and Yahoo.. because of their links to fraud... Google is new and has the option of starting with a "clean slate" Watch movies..... Google This.... Search Google... I have a feeling if Google came out with a good Auction place eBay may suffer severely.... Not bad for a company started in a rat hole.... The whole spyware thing isn't likely to hurt them too much.. how many of you still use IE despite the recent articles on spyware and viruses? Spyware may suck, but between cheating spouses and geeks with too much time on their hands viruses and spyware will remain a new constant in our lives. The government cannot and will not ever be able to take ahold of it and get it into control... Gotta love American Business!

The average American probably has no clue what SpyWare is. I think the issue is a non-starter.

It's pretty typical of all the traffic I see. The percentage from anyone other than Google is negligible. They are clearly dominant now.

my site is about 99.99999% google

Mine is Google 65% Yahoo 21% MSN 7.8% AOL 1.2% and the rest are below 1%

those are pretty good numbers from yahoo. but still 65% for google.

i checked mine out and as it happens google is less then what i had earlier posted :D

not by much i bet.

Edwin, you say Google can not be beat, but if you keep making smart remarks about me you sure as hell can get your arse kicked. I will find you Edwin.

google doesn't get its visits by spyware even if it does use it, which i dont understand how this can be true. My grandparents don't say "search" they say "google" and that's just the way things are right now. for the moment google is fairly safe. i think after spyware goes away more people who are curently going to places like globe-finder.net due to a hijacker will go to google so they will probably get MORE hits ^-^.

Google has the webmasters. So far we haven't seen much out of Overture. If there were a competing program for AdSense maybe people would switch. But as things stand Google has been able to maintain their dominant position without too much fuss.

Overture actually has very good customer service for their PPC program... i was having trouble when setting it up ... and they were great over the phone and VERY helpful... However the click to buy ratio (for us at least) was horrible! For Every $50 on Google we made around $500 for Every $50 on Overture we made MAYBE $77 So it seems the quality of clicks tends to be higher in Google.. for us... I don't know about other keywords

Where do they get their content partners from? I don't think they have an AdSense type program.

Very impressive numbers there :) Google is dominant in my logs, so I can't discount them as being the major player. We'll have to wait and see what MSN brings to the arena.. I have caught a glimpse of their engine.. it looked pretty good from what I can tell..

Yea Google is the big guy right now, Edwin says that they can not be beat, but Rome was great at one time also, what happened to the Roman Empire, how about the British Empire? When you have so many gunning for you, sometimes you get beat. Yes Google is doing good now, Edwin says they can't be beat, just as Edwin says he can't be beat in the posting race. But Ed, remember the old posting algo's vs the new posting algo's? Looks like you might join the Roman Empire with Google soon Edwin in the ashes of history. Google may not be able to be beat right now Edwin, but you can sure be whupped

i believe it was sergey brin who said it best: veni. vedi. veci or was that ja rule?

i suppose even google will be beat at some point in time. But honestly, i dont think that time is going to be here any time soon. ^-^

My site is about 2/3 google. I think anyone who buys Google stock is asking for trouble. Bill gates has beat all othes every time. I have seen an advance version of the new MSN search

I definitely wouldn't buy the stock. The insiders get rich and it will take years for initial investors to recoup. And Google in their SEC filing clearly outlined Yahoo and MSN as their chief rivals.

I remember the day when altavista and yahoo got all the traffic, now look at it. Dont make absolute statements. (unless its about Bush being stupid)

Your wrong darksat. Bush is too dumb to be stupid.

Dumbocrat webmasters? Webmasters are supposed to be Rich and Republican.

Hey now. George Bush has nothing to do with Google. Time will tell what happens with Google and the grand IPO. I'm not placing bets on anything, but it is a difficult economic market to come rolling in with bowling ball sized nuts, thinking its gonna be OK after illegally selling shares etc. All very bad press for investors that might not understand "the vision" of Google..

Its looking a bit iffy where i stand. anyone want to buy half a million worth of shares. 8)

they should buy out the shareholders and go private again.

I was reading that the shareholders would sue them or something.. I'll have to dig up where I heard that snippett and report back..

There will be many lawsuits Brigid, since Google is forcing most of those folks to sell the stock back to the company that was given as options illegally. Most will also have to give up their rights to sue the management as part of the repurchase, but those who do not co-operate could file suits and hold up the IPO. How many folks are going to contest their own employer, that is the question :?: 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

yeah. i think lawyers will make a ton of dough off of google.

Google is the best thing to happen to lawyers since "Old English" was coined Edward. Like Mother used to tell you, go to school and become a doctor or a lawyer, too bad we never listened to Mother EdZep

Lawyers sue Doctors. Doctors pay out the butt for malpractice insurance. If I were going to pursue law, I'd prefer to be a judge. More musings in the IPO: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/040811/getting_in_on_google_4.html

Brigid, they are trying to weed out folks that may bail out early, this is all carefully calculated in advance by the smart folks at Google. So if you check that your income or net worth is below a certain level they do not want you to buy, since if you have less money and need cash you are more likely to sell quicker than someone who has a higher net worth. I guess you have to lie about some things to FOOL THE SMART PEOPLE.. 8O 8O 8O

Makes for a good theory, Anthony. I'm gonna watch. I could be shocked by what happens, but after buying into a couple of "normal" IPO's in the last couple of years, they are not what they used to be in the 90's. Planetout is another company that has delayed their IPO. They are looking at shares 9.00-11.00. Both Google and Planetout are in the same industry group, Internet Content. Planetout has a very specific niche, and some amount of branding.. a lot less secrecy, I'll bet.. Sorry for rambling..

The best stocks to invest in are those that are already freely trading, you do not need to chase IPO's. There are so many depressed stocks right now that all you have to do is find companies with low debt and good earnings per share and simply wait 3-4 years. If you can not identify these companies yourself, go to an association that I have belonged to since 1977. www.aaii.com If you are interested in the stock market this is the best educational association on earth. They have every tool under the sun available to members.

good point about the group brigid. and how can google be worth more than yahoo?

Thanks for the link. Looks like a very useful website. I'll have to go spend some time there..

Hey! I gotta rank increase finally! Hurray for me :)

You will be a moderator here before Edwing, EZ causes too much trouble to be a moderator, between Edzep, OneillZeppelin and DarksatZeppelin those guys will cause all kinds of havoc, what a bunch of hooligans.

I checked out some "googledance2004" pictures they had posted. Looked like a lot of great fun. LOL.. Webmasters are crying, Sergey and Brin are talking, and everyone else is partying.. Go figure.

Snippet of some more news: From Yahoo News: I don't want to rain on their parade, but I think this interview is going to cause regulatory concern. There could be consequences," said Zuppone, now with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker in New York. Securities attorney David Walek of Ropes & Gray agreed that the interview would be a serious problem for almost any company preparing an IPO. But he said Google may be an exception because of the widespread publicity swamping the company since its IPO filing in late April. "There already has been so much written about this company that the SEC may conclude that this doesn't really change the mix that much," Walek said. SEC spokesman John Nester and Google spokeswoman Cindy McCaffrey declined to comment Thursday.
