My recomendation if you are buying hosting is linux preferably with PHP and SQL If you want to buy a computer to do the hosting off you can run a good apache server of both linux and windows. in fact the windows webserver WAMP and XAMP are very good and very fast if you want to run a server off your own machine. You need a fast always on connection though, But for buying online hosting I would recomend LINUX/APACHE with PHP and SQL

No prob, Go for linux if possible. for DHTML & javascript though it dosnt make 2 much difference.
