Nope...still the red 'X'. Should there be a file (count.cgi) located in the http://yourdomain.com/cgi-sys/ folder, or is this created at another time?
Count.cgi should be there.
That is what I assumed....well that is one strike against my host because of their support. They told me that the file doesn't need to be there. Where does that file come from. Should I notify the host that it is not there and have them add it for me, or should I just learn how to create the script myself.....well, let me clarify that, is this a good project to learn how to use scripting. I have some courses in C++, Java, and VB so I am familiar with code, but I haven't had the need to use it in the real world. Thank you for the replies.
hang on we use CPanel here.. someone is checking out a couple things now :)
just have them toss the file in the right place. or find a script and upload it to the directory. make it executable. voila.
cgi-sys appears to be an alias in httpd.conf for all the sites on a cpanel server. you do NOT need a cgi-sys directory in your public_html for this to work and should not put one there. Have your techs check to make sure the script is running properly .. the code you have is correct (same exact code ours would run) .. What version of CPanel is running? Have them see if they can run it for other sites... When you do the counter can you do the preview? if not its up to your host to fix it.. there is not much you can do unless you want to install a different counter yourself. Hope this helps..
Thank you for checking, fpworld. With some help from my host I found my issue. When I created the HTML for the counter in CPanel, the path originally comes up as cgi-sys for the directory name. I noticed that I didn't have a cgi-sys, but a cgi-bin, so I changed the path. That was where I was stuck. For grins, I just went into the counter path and changed it back to cgi-sys and then changed the cgi-bin folder name to cgi-sys and it worked. As you have said, fpworld, the cgi-sys name is an alias, but I wonder if maybe my host doesn't have CPanel (v8.4.0) configured correctly. Thank you very much, folks. On to the next issue. :)
Either they don't have it configured correctly or they disabled it due to scripts being unsecure.. My tech guy had to disable form mail due to a bad patch from CPanel. :) Issues Issues everywhere... Woohoo.. bigger post counts... Who's next!
Are u using my difficulties to increase your post count? :D I feel soooo used. I will try to come up with more general issues so that we can all get a coupla dozen posts a day. Sound good?
 Knocking up my post count is just a bonus  The true reward is helping someone! *bats eyelashes* hehe... The more issues the better! Bring 'em on!

Okay....here is an easy one. Do you think you should wear white socks with jeans when you are wearing shoes other than sneakers? That is an ongoing discussion here at work. :D
Depends... Boots - Yes its fine.. Loafers - No way...Tacky Sandals - No way...Really Tacky Heels - Umm.. No! - Just plain stupid
white socks are a definite fashion faux pas!
What about with Sketchers (sp?) or GBXs ? If not white, what color socks. Normally the rule is the socks should match the shoes or the pants so that there is a continuous color, in suits especially. For me it depends on the color of the pants..... blue suit and black shoes - black socks tan pants and black shoes - tan socks black suit and purple shoes - green socks, of course. 8O
Skechers - with jeans - match shoes... GBX - with jeans white socks MAY be ok... depends on the version... so not sure.. Suits.. Dunno... Don't wear them... I just like looking at men all dressed up! :) not paying attention to the socks
i agree with the classic conclusion. the socks should match both the pants AND the shoes.
