bringing it into being a legit industry? Because it was such a dodgy trade to begin with??? I have a full time job doing SEo and I pay tax and all. how much more legit need it be. Just sound like a group trying to take a position of power and become a brand name. How do you regulate & represent SEO.

I heard the speak once, and their pitch was pretty good. If you make "Search Engine Marketing" more mainstream, it will vastly increase the amount of revenue that major companies will allocate to their budgets to use for it. This would take a rather large PR campaign that would increase awareness of what Search Engine Marketing is, and how companies could benefit from it. But the trouble is, they seem like they have gone a bit off kilter.

And if SEO goes more main stream and everyone starts doing it it makes the job a lot harder.

Sure does. But theoretically it could also give some clout to the whole industry where it may be lacking with so many individuals working seperately. Perhaps a large motivated group that represents billions of dollars of AdWords money could put pressure on Google to make changes beneficial to the industry. To go it alone in the long run is probably a tough road travel.

I would prefer to work in a specialised field, you make more money and there is less competition. and i dont think anyone is going to put preasure on google.

Well then you're one of their potential clients who they will have trouble getting money from. And you're certainly not alone. I tend to think most Search Engine Marketers are loners.

3Lite only messing, your probably right

After reading that load I have to say these guys aren't gonna make it. It's the same greedy syndicate that runs DMOZ, etc. They aren't gonna help anyone in the search engine bizness.

I still think that mass produced SEO will end in disaster and a lot of black hat techniques and a lot more work for me/all of us.

they aren't promoting mass production. they're just promoting a professional organization to add more weight to the industry. but i like the one blog article. he describes the whole thing very well and the fact they wouldn't answer any of his questions directory should tell us all something.
