SEO Fatal Flaw

Thanks for that tip. Insulating yourself from a google meteor that destroys your whole planet is probably a better idea.

Yeah but if you target for a 2-3 word phrase and drop from google serps you will still get more trafic from the other engines than if you target a 5 word phrase? Yes no mabey. Im slightly inebriated so please excuse my bad spelling.

Competition might not be as fierce with more keywords or phrases. The more specific someone is searching, the closer they are to buying. A searcher types in: car stereo. This could be to find information on car stereos in general. Lots of info available for this general search. Next search: Manufacturer car stereo. They are looking for car stereo information by that specific manufacturer. Probably researching all car stereos made by said manufacturer. Next search: Manufacturer Make/Model Number. They are searching for an exact make and model. This would be a highly qualified customer that is closer to buying than a general search. Thoughts?

one word and two word searchers are tire kickers. buyers are looking for feedback to buy. a buyer looking for a product name reviews is more likely to convert than a buyer looking just for product name. same goes for "price comparison" and on and on.

I dont think that applies to people looking up company formation & incorporation. If you get them looking at it and the design & content is good enough you should pull them in.

Very true. Company Incorporation is very specific. Do you use inventory.overture.com at all? Maybe it could give you some ideas for related search terms you could use to extend your reach.

[quote:ba63a33ed6]2) You have a lot less reliance on algo changes and are free to compete with less time defending one do-or-die phrase. [/quote:ba63a33ed6] I'm not too sure I agree with that... There is nothing stopping your site from being damaged following an algo change, regardless of how many words you target... The algo change will affect your results in regard to the way in which your site has been SEO'd. The number of words that you are targetting makes no difference in this case.

spread your risk across multiple domains

Keep your backlinks as natural as you can.

If theres an algo change - it doesnt really matter how many words you have targeted or how you've targeted them, You will be effected. If the algo changes, simply change with it.

That takes time though. Just concentrate on natural SEO with good content and natural backlinks if you can.

good seo in general takes time.

seo is the easiest job i can imagine

True. :P But it still takes a bit of skill & patience.

getting links for google takes patience.

Or just create good content or mirror some files for download.

You can also get a lot of backlinks by visiting your neighborhood Wiki. Or better yet, send a robot to do it.

Wikis: high PR, editable by anyone. They invite you to place links anonymously in them. One could take them up on their offer and place 1000s of one-way links with just the proper anchor text. It worked for the "Nigrtitude Ultramarine" contest. You can also use Guestbooks and blogs, but generally Wikis have the best PR.

Thanks for the info.

i mean its cheesy but lets face facts: its fast, easy, legal and free to spam google. it makes you a bad person, but only to people who's income you now posess. :P

Looks interesting. I like.

My main competitor had the balls to complain when we overtook them----keep in mind that they are huge crosslinkers, use hidden text and until recently a doorway page and spammy alt tags. I actually targeted about a half dozen kws. Good point about not keeping all of your eggs in one basket, though. ____________________ Boulder City NV Real Estate | Las Vegas Retirement Communities | Las Vegas Golf Homes | Dogs for adoption in Las Vegas[/size:3528d1a227]

A lot of the spam techniques will work but it really depends on what type of website you're running and what type of person you are. Straight-edged people can sleep better at night being White Hats. But you have to be aware of the very real threat of being banned. If you run roughshod on Google's guidelines, be prepared to lose your domain. If you have a brand name or an offline business or any website that you've invested in heavily, it's probably never worth it. However, you can certainly take the risk with a $7 throwaway domain name. And generally, links to you, cannot hurt you, so that gives you a lot of leeway in where you get them.

I think this is the same case for people using PPCs. They kill their budget trying to go for the main phrase.

For sure it is. The more words people enter, the closer they are to buying. Going for the main phrase is fine, but it's generally a linking contest with another few webmasters. I always go for the easier phrases that convert better.
