couldn't agree more. sometimes its real tough to do but it makes life easier. mod_rewrite is helpful too
You just need to keep in mind what you are doing when you design. Mod rewrites are handy but i havnt got around to using them commerically yet.
i use them for fake directory and subdirectory names most of my pages go index.php?id=10 etc then i rewrite them with a /keyword-keyword/keyword.html type of setup
I do know what a mod rewrite is. if you want to see soething cool I am working on a nice little script that uses cloaking & 301 redirect to do some fairly cool, PR stuff.
can you use a 301 redirect to retain toolbar pagerank?
I will PM you the script along with a discription of what it can be used for when I have finished building it. its quite good but very hush hush.
sounds like a plan
Thats me , the man with the plan.
you better have a plan. especially nowadays with the search engines.
Its quite cute, the way it works.
You can use a 301 to fool the ToolBar. You could use it primarily to befuddle webmasters though, it wouldn't have too much effect on SERPS. You could use the point the domain at Yahoo trick to get fake ToolBar green too. But actually none of this will matter because nobody has updated the ToolBar in longer than most can recall.
Actually I was thinking of 301 cloaking to one of my own domains for a links directory, the toolbar shouldnt need to update because it will just take the PR form the other domain once the site gets spidered & the backlinks then get credited to the old site.
cloaking the 301? how so?
Use a PHP or ASP 301 script not the httaccess just run it up to an ip/user agent script and away you go.
so header-redirect? does it fool the toolbar?
Yeah, just the toolbar though.
i guess it would be a quick way to show some pagerank for trades, as long as you have a spare pr 5 page or so hanging around.
Exactly.
You can also use the old point the domain at Yahoo trick. But actually, nowadays that would take too long to do much good.
And its a waste of the PR you get back anyway. doing it by page is more effective as everyone will link to the main page.
