What do I tell my Clients?

SEO isn't that difficult, once you know what you are doing. You can't simply change the signature in one forum you belong to and link from the handfull of sites that you administer. It's a job that needs some experience and effort/time.

its not tough but guaranteeing results is impossible.

The hardest part is getting the client to wait for results.

That is why always having some PPC is worth it. PPC can accomplish instant rankings, too. and if natural rankings take a while, it takes a bit of the heat off. Of course this isn't free, but assures a placement anyhow.

thats it. you need to explain it all up front. how many people will really want to pay and then just wait?

Well my employers for one. how long that will last i dont know though. 8)

they hired you for full time seo work? i hope you told them it would take a while.

They had a guy doing seo before so they knew what to expect. ive already given them a traffic increase through yahoo, but waiting for google is pissing me off.

Do you have a budget? If you do, Maybe think about running an adsense campaign. Google is taking a few weeks to even get new pages indexed. I think that with some corporate funding they are switching things around, upgrading or adding hardware, and things aren't working like they used to due to changes like that. PPC can keep you in the listings at the very least.

We do advertising on related sites that get a lot of related traffic. better value for money.

[quote:166d99cfa4="webmastery"]I see that question asked a lot by SEOs in forums. "What do I tell my Clients now that they I can't get them ranked in Google"? The answer is simple. Tell them the truth. Tell them you suck and they should have hired someone else. Be prepared to refund them also. If you're an "SEO" and you're asking people in forums how to get ranked, and failing that, how to explain why they can't get rankings, then you shouldn't be selling your services to others.[/quote:166d99cfa4] Ouch. Harsh but true. Everyone wants instant results. Its the nature of today's soceity. It could feasibly be six months at the earliest before they see results on google. managing the clients expectations is a big part of the job

Its the hardest part of most businesses.

Ensure your client understands the true extent to timescales and rankings they can expect before money changes hands. That way they can never be dissapointed if you have laid it out to them from the beginning. But yea, if you claim to be an seo and son't achieve results... you do suck.

i mean lets face it. if someone pays you and you can't deliver you are in deep water. and who is really gonna help you?
