Only simple stuff really, it's my first website, and when finished is going to be used for our business, the form is just a multi-purpose form for customers to contact us. Name / Email / a few pull down lists for them to select a subject for the form / and a comment text entry box -P.S - I think I may have found a suitable site that will look after the processing of my forms for the moment, but I will look into the server side script stuff when I move from my test site (isp free space) to the paying host that I will use for the real site Thanks for your time ! Paul
make sure you get a php server and you'll find millions of examples on coding forms. php is great for that.
if you have a PHP server I will give you my PHP mail form.
Very shortly I will need to find a good (relatively cheap) host, about £45-£50 per year would be ideal if this is not an unreasonable request. I think I made a list somewhere of the things that previously you had told me I should look for. There just seems so many, at widely varying prices, and I havent heard of any of them. Should I look for one that is based here in the uk....have you heard of 'Fasthosts', they're a uk company that offers a package in my price range, they seem to do quite a lot of magazine advertising here. will do plenty more research first ! cheers - Paul
Im not that keen on fasthosts, they dont mention bandwidth allowance at all and SQL databases and a lot of other features are paid addons. gets my warning bells going.
To be perfectly honest with you, If I decided to be happy with the way I'm doing the form (thru response-o-matic form processor), I don't see too much wrong with the service I'm getting from my free isp's webspace. I did make up an address for this 'test version' that isn't suitable for use on the real site (I registered the proper cleveleyscarpetcentre.co.uk name with Lycos previously) - I would have tried out the finished version of the site using the tiscali free space, and only changed to a paid host if I felt it was needed (it's not likely to be a technical or super busy site anyway) Which of the following would you recommend:- Option 1 - try to get my free isp re-set to take on the correct cleveleyscarpetcentre.co.uk domain name and operate the site from there to see how it goes, only changing to a paid host if needed, after all, I don't need the extra features of the paid host at this time. Option 2 - Not doing option 1, because it would be more complicated in the long run, organising the new paid host to use the cleveleyscarpetcentre.co.uk domain name, then simply moving the files across when the new host is ready.
option1 don't spend the money if you don't need to. when the time comes to invest more, then upgrade.
Ive just had an email with some very technical jargon from my isp, it seems that (for me) changing to my 'real' domain name might not be worth the hassle, I'll try to find a £50 per year host, that way, I can get the new host operational, and then upload to it, and close the first site down, might be easier for me that way. People seem awfull vague when suggesting hosts, and yet most people say 'be wary' do plenty research first I need to know a friend who can advise on what he uses Thanks - Paul
i went with flump.net they came highly recommended and have a very good server but the muppet I was dealing with was useless, and they dont have the best customer support. you want something with cpanel9
