where do these pages come from?

The internet, I think they are integrating a new datacentre or something, the front page page count hasnt been current for over a year now.

these are weird results. lots of amazon books in the listings.

any similarity to A9s listings?

I am seeing some Amazon listings mixed in. The restructure of Googles new index must be in the making. It has been shifting for about the last 5-7 days, from what I can see..

there are a bunch of new pages fleshing in today. the site: command shows a lot more pages than normal.

Don't quote me on this, but it looks like Google is doing a major house cleaning. I've been tracking some sites that were crosslinking. It seems they are making good on their threat to crack down and penalize these sites. Looks like another big shake up on the way?!

cant forget that they do get results from dmoz.org as well that could be where they are getting the other results

Dmoz updates arnt that fresh and there is no way they will increase reliance on them, thay have had all the DMOZ links spidered a long time ago and DMOZ aint been updated that much.

I have in front of me the Time's magazine article on the google game. It seems unscrupulous competitors are hiring Third World workers to spend all day clicking rival ads, destroying their ad budgets or creating a Web page and then writing software that will repeatedly click on the ads. A Dallas-based auditing firm Click Assurnce estimates that 10 - 20 percent of all pay-per-clickad revenue is phony. Any new info on this? Stephanie

i was attacked by click-bots once. google did stop the attack and send me an email. but click fraud is a huge problem i'm sure.
