you need to check your logs for referrers too and see what people are typing to get to you.
I've noticed a lot of STUPID searches!! What I mean by Stupid searches is a lot of mis- spellings etc. Seems as if it's like Short Attention Span Theatre in my weblogs! :?
Exactly miss Brigid! People rarely search the way you think they will. They are usually much dumber than you realize! Mis-spellings are a huge source of traffic!
ill third this statement. if you check your referrer logs you will definitely see the variations on how people think words are spelled. make sure to use all of the variants as keywords. more traffic for you that way!
if your site is new, start targeting three and four keyword phrases that are specific. the more precise you can get with the traffic, the more valuable it becomes to you.
Go for mis-spellings too. People are dumb about spelling! Think of every variation you can.
look up a few keywords. see which site is at the top or near the top for most of the keywords. copy and paste the keywords into your meta tag. save!
Before I set up the keywords on my site I spent days and days searching through other sites like mine using every keyword I could think of to propose reciprocal link exchanges. By the time I got tired of that I had good idea of what keywords I should use.
f-w-r makes a good point. see what your "competitors" have done and gear your site along the same lines.
