[quote:51a525badd="carpetpaul"]My site isnt totally finished yet, although I do have the basics, icluding reasonable content etc. Is there any harm in submitting to varoius directories and search engines at this stage ?[/quote:51a525badd] Depends on where you submit it. Dmoz won't accept a site that is clearly under construction. If you have finished the basics and are just adding to make the site even better, then they may not even notice. If you think about it, almost every site on the net is updating all the time, or they should be :) [quote:51a525badd="carpetpaul"] My question is : would my ranking increase as the content and links etc on the site change - is the site reviewed every once in a while by these directories and search engines or do you have to re-submit[/quote:51a525badd] Don't bother submitting to search engines. Go with the directories and the search engines will spider the directories and find your site. I don't know of any directory that requires more than one submission so no resubmitting is necessary. [quote:51a525badd="carpetpaul"]should I get the site more refined before I submit, or is there no harm in doing as much as I can to submit now ?[/quote:51a525badd] See above :)
the site is totally workable from the point of view of one of our prospective customers viewing it. all is there in terms of description of our business, product, contact info, and product images (although not in it's entirety yet) the only thing I havent started on yet, is the things that will help me to get somewhere in the search engine results, there are no links to other sites yet, and I havent submitted anything to anyone yet I just wondered it it would harm my future page ranking if I were to submit this early (but wokable) version of the site. I dont mind submitting now as long as to a degree the directories will keep an eye on the site as it continues to refine come to think of it, I don't even know the difference between a search engine and a directory, does a directory just hold details of your sites, is it from here that search engines can loacte your details and go off to spider your pages ? (If this is right, if I get in plenty of directories now, it's only the search engines that need to take notice as the site develops, and they do that automatically right ?) cheers - Paul
As both Raven and Edwin already said, it can't hurt. Some submission places are funny about things like broken links, etc. If you read the submission policies, they should disclose what parameters need to be met for inclusion. Any of these types of links will help to build popularity..
