We made Gimpsy different because we didn't figure the net needed yahoo or dmoz. [quote:7f03941720="Brigid"]Birthdays are sooo cool! Hi all! The first of four Gimpsy competitions has ended. You can see a list of the most recent winners here. The second competition is now on! All you have to do is register, then type out a common English phrase that will bring up a list of sites in our directory. Besides two smaller prizes we are giving away for each competition, one person from all eligible entrants from all four competitions will be the grand prize winner of 100.00 USD! Come on, give it a try :D raven
I'll be sure to enter the competition! But I'm a little confused. When I look up your Whois records, it shows me: Domain Created: 3/6/2001 And I see that you celebrated your 1st aniversery on Nov 03, 2003 But How can that be?
We worked on the directory for almost 2 years before going live 'cause what good is an empty directory? The one year anniversary is from the time we opened our doors and announced ourselves to the world. That was on November 1/2002 :) And good luck with the competition! I'd be entering it if I could but I'm not allowed :( raven
also, just so you know: whois info is not reliable. network solutions acknowledged this a while back. many sites have inaccurate info on them and they are working to fix it.
Being unreliable would explain why several domain names I wanted to watch in case people "forgot" to renew... say they expire in 1969 .. I sure hope the new owners become more reliable..
i wonder "who" the owners actually are? whois? that is the question..
some new company bought netsol for pennies. i actually was pissed about the whois problem because one of my domains that was reg'ed in 1996 lost its "history". doesn't seem like it would be too hard to keep a whois date accurate, but then again, consider who we're talking about!
 Exactly.. consider the owner... I refuse to use the major whois anyway besides being unreliable anyways.... when looking up a domain name.. because people monitor them - if you don't purchase immediately you risk someone "snapping up" the domain name and charging a fortune... happened to me more times then I can count.. Lucky for me.. I can check names now through a backdoor and noone monitors! Woo hoo!
[quote:fcb9369363="feathers"]i wonder "who" the owners actually are? whois? that is the question..[/quote:fcb9369363] feathers, if you're talking about Gimpsy, there is only one owner, the same one shown on whois.net (Mordechai Chachamu). But after reading this thread over again, I have a feeling you're talking about the owner(s) of whois :) raven
We veered a little off topic here as usual, but I also have lost history on my domain record. I could see that being a big issue down the road for a number of reasons and it seems hard to believe the main registrar couldn't safeguard data better than that. Oh, and happy birthday Gimpsy!
