I agree... They are going to look out for themselves... and I wouldn't buy into them either... seems going public may have gone to their heads... biggest problem with companies ... Sacrifice all for money... and service crashes... shame... but welcome to business...
Only the paranoid survive is my mantra. Maybe they are slowly choking off webmasters, other than the major players, that *require* payment every month? Anyone "making too much" as a little fish is left to swim in their own pond? I also think that after a while the ads go the same way as other advertising have went, ignored and unwanted? In fact Norton Anti-virus kills off the ads altogether..
I don't think that paranoid webmaster will survive this either :) They will just be the last to go. But what we are saying here is that webmasters with their businesses are in deep s*** at this point. Google and Overture don't want us and others deliver crappy results... There is no point in trying to figure out how the hell did that happen. What we need to figure out is how to get our sites back in business and find marketing techniques that work. So who's with me! Andrey
You can count me in!

I guess what I should have actually said is "google isn't your friend" Google is a company about ready to go public. They need numbers in order to sustain an IPO worthy of whatever they *feel* they are worth. If Yahoo drops Google for search, which I have already seen shifting from time to time, who "needs" them? I also know that many "surfers" are totally clueless. They will take results from anywhere. If I were to ask my mom or siblings (who use the invisible internet) what google is, I can honestly say that they would have no idea what I was talking about. PR means nothing to them. I'm sure they are not the only ones out there that are like that.
How about we start with sharing what works for who? :) I will start. Well, as you guys know I started Stormex about 2 months ago. It is not even near top results in Google or any other search engine or directory. So naturally I was forced to look for alternatives. I tried a lot of different pay-per-click search engines. I don't have a big budget and 2 that work for me the best are 7Search and PageSeeker. I know some people are saying that they are full of crap, affiliate programs and clickbots but I still got a good amount of leads (in my case) from those ppcs. I'll share some more if other do to  Andrey
I joined all the ones on your list that didn't require a deposit first... or paypal info... I'm not sure if they've brought me much yet.. I have to analize my data the last few days.... Unfortunantly Google is still my #1 referer.. with MSN 2nd and Yahoo 3rd... I've posted to dozens possibly hundreds of directories... which don't seem to bring in much at all...
Ultimately what works is diversity. Definitely do basic SEO for free traffic. Experiment with the PPC and keep as good of records as possible. Pay a ton of attention to your keyphrases. Some convert better than others. Try varying phrases and pay close attention to what people are looking for. Also do link exchanges with like minded sites. Submit to as many directories as possible for the links and the traffic. And word of mouth will get you some visits too. It takes time mostly.
Also, there are some good affiliate programs like www.DarkBlue.com. One of my partner companies tried it, they spent only $5!!! after gettting 5,000 visits and around 100 leads. They require $500 deposit but if you e-mail them they will let you join for only $100. Andrey
lets face fact. google has 80% of the market share now. where do you go from there? down! they have already peaked. another way to get traffic is to post in the forums with a sig file. people who are interested in your posts will click. i click on sig links all the time but never on an adword. the internet existed before google and will exist after. put up pages that are worth getting return traffic and you will build your site. make people notice it enough to bookmark it.
Well on forums you count on search traffic for only so long. 78% of all visitors are repeat. Obviously that won't be the case for many sites, but you should try to build some sort of interactivity in to encourage repeat visitors.
