Personal website blues

Join places like http://www.cj.com and other simple small affiliate programs... and throw products here and there on your site...ie: flowers, gifts, techie, xbox, whatever..... Technically considering what you offer on your site, ie: games, etc... I wouldn't consider you the "personal" website they generally refer too... and if you put some products "for sale" (noone ever said they had to be yours) then you are no longer a "personal" site at all.. Generally companies that state no personal websites mean: All About Bobby and Mary-See the pictures of our lives... You offer products and items for downloads... so give some different smaller companies a shot.. then find the big ones you were after ...

Oh, cool! I assumed that when I was turned down by Google all the other programs would do the same.

Google is VERY picky ... and not the way to judge anyone.. believe me ! LOL Most affiliate programs will accept you, because the way they make money are "small sites" that try to sell their stuff

Yeah, and it doesn't cost you much to make specific pages that are geared for specific keywords. If you can rank well for those keywords and you have an affiliate link you can make consistent money off of any page. If you have a good bit of time, you can make tons of pages for products. Do reviews. You will rank easily in Google if you have a lot of content about a product. Then have 3 or 4 links to the top 3 or 4 affiliates concerning the products you reviewed. If you act independent and do "reviews" you probably have the best chance of ranking well and actually making some revenue. And BTW, what official reason did Google give you for not accepting you?

The "oficial" reason for being turned down was one of those premade things. It simply said I was turned down for "one of the following reasons". I asked later, thinking I could fix it, and they said they did not yet support personal websites *dismisive gesture* BTW site pro news informed me google would make a change, and suddenly my results are irelevant when using it, what's that about? Google used to be really good, now I sometimes use MSN or Yahoo because google has whacked out results.

Their form letters are very "personal". But I guess we shouldn't be too surprised when corresponding with a robot. I usually don't notice too many problems with the Google results but lately they have been a bit worse than usual. It's very hard to find an answer to a technical question without sorting through 20 posts or so. I used to be able to enter a snippet like "error 2002: socket" blah blah and usually Google would find a discussion on the error message. Now it just returns pages with the error message on them! Go figure.

I do want to sell something. I am working hard at music, and want to try and sell my CD online. How would I implement my idea? I am a minor, so keep that in mind if you have any ideas.

well you can definitely sample it on your website. and if enough people download it, then you could start selling it.

First off, how would i let them pay. Can i use a credit card system, and that way it would be easier to trust than "just send me a check and you'll get your CD". Also, are there any ways to drive trafic or advertise your product on other websites that are cost effective. Currently I don't have the hits to pull it off. Lastly, would you charge them to download the music, or actually send a CD, could you do both? Can I use paypal on my site for free?

PayPal might be a route you could go. I'm not sure about whether or not being a minor would be a problem, maybe one of your parents would be willing to "help"? The only thing you would need is a bank account to deposit to..

I have a bank acount. What do you mean? Can I legaly have it be my parents' acount and put it on my website?

check with paypal. send them an email and ask. there are definitely young people who make money on the internet. we hear about whiz kids all the time. i think you would be better off getting a recordiing contract with a major studio. let them do the promotions and you stick to the performance.

hehe, I can try at least. Not really sure where to start. I don't suppose this is the forum to start a discusion on recording contracts though :).

With PayPal... and any other credit card processing company period... You have to be at the very least backed with Parental Permission... Generally the rule of thumb is.. you're allowed to make money, but only with parent permission, you're just not allowed to spend it online..... I know.. Stupid.. but technically you are required to be 18 years of age or older to purchase online... (even Nick.com states that...) Paypal will work with you, however you need photo ID to interact with a certain amount of money, which is where you're parents will probably need to come in.... At the same time you're parents are going to want YOU to make the money, or they will be stuck paying the taxes on it... Talk with PayPal, and see what they say .... but Make sure you have a conversation with your parents first.. because if they aren't willing to help you you may not get your money from PayPal... I will check with my merchant processor .. I don't know what they require in that aspect....

I think the people in DC and any other politics people, should stay away from the internet. I despise the silly rules they make (concerning the internet anyway), they should just simply stay away from the web... of course anarchy could ensue, but it's allready anarchy. It's not like they enforce any rules except the most anoying ones. HA! The people of the internet should rebel and create our own virtual government! Gwa-ha-ha-ha! Or, more realistically, they should make internet comities that will make the bulk of internet decisions. It would be full of tech savy people, and could actually work. LIVE PEAK IN CONGRESS: "What is a spybot?" "Dunno." "Let's make laws we cannot enforce about them so it looks like we care!" "Jolly good idea!"

whoa, cool, I'm not a "kid/n00b" anymore!
