No doubt you're right about that. The Ink move has been tested for months. I sometimes get Google results and I sometimes get Ink. Inktomi is a bit heavier on on page optimization and bit lighter on links than Google.
Just thought it might help you out a little bit more: http://open-site.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/Inktomi/ [quote:ddfdf1f35b]Inktomi's database is a combination of 4 different sections of the database: [b:ddfdf1f35b]Inktomi Web Map[/b:ddfdf1f35b] - Inktomi Web map is a link structure of the Web, made by Inktomi, when their spider "Slurp" visits a site, its automatically added into the Web Map, they claim to have a Web Map of 3.0 billion docs, but Web Map, makes no effect in the database, its something like PageRank, which effects the algo. [b:ddfdf1f35b]Best of the Web (BOW)[/b:ddfdf1f35b] - BOW is a database, which gives a site result a high rank in Inktomi's algorithm, it contains the database of the Web Map, to create a 500 million database of the Best of the Web. [b:ddfdf1f35b]GigaDoc[/b:ddfdf1f35b] - GigaDoc is basically a combination of the Best of the Web and the other one billion sites which haven't made into the BOW yet. [b:ddfdf1f35b]Paid Inclusion[/b:ddfdf1f35b] - Paid Inclusion is simple a service that Inktomi offers where users can pay to get included in the Inktomi Database with that they also get: 48 hour update and a automatic inclusion in all the Inktomi partners databases. (This is equivalent to the Best Of the Web) [/quote:ddfdf1f35b] I wrote all that :D
way to go sid! useful info. ink uses some of the same elements as pagerank. i would be willing to bet that yahoo has a link popularity algo in place or is desperately work on one. my guess is that the "new yahoo" results will look a lot like the old google/yahoo results when they get done with beta.
Yep, we'll keep it in mind when optimizing for Ink.
[quote:5f8a89cbc0]way to go sid! useful info. [/quote:5f8a89cbc0] Thanks :) I work damn hard on my Open-Site category: http://open-site.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines [quote:5f8a89cbc0]my guess is that the "new yahoo" results will look a lot like the old google/yahoo results when they get done with beta.[/quote:5f8a89cbc0] yep, many people have been waiting long for the Yahoo/Ink switch, and now that its finally announced - they are happy :) If I were Yahoo, I'd make a META search engine with my own algo using my own search engines (Ink, AV and ATW), 3 combined into 1 should be able to come near Google: 1) AllTheWeb - 3.3 billion database size 2) Inktomi - The super accurate algo 3) AltaVista - So many features - Babelfish, Full Boolean, Field searching features etc, explains more over here: http://open-site.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/AltaVista/ Thats mine too :)
