Basic Tip #1

Style Sheets also come in handy when you want to make changes to all of your pages at once. You can edit one file and the changes will apply to all of your pages, no matter how big your website is. That type of central control makes your life a little easier.

I would use style sheets, but I have Dreamweaver, FLash, Fireworks and NetObjects on one computer and my broadband on another, with only floppy disks to transfer with (cdrws are too slow; cdrs too wasteful). As a result... well, look at my site now. It makes me cry sometimes, it really does.

im in the same boat as fishdonuts. my sites design has gotten out of hand. 8)

I'm hoping to stick NetObjects on my net computer soon, which should give me a nice new site. However, my site is so disorganised (8 folders with images, pages and files everywhere) that it would kill NetObjects to directory my site. The cruddy layout also means Google is displaying pages I never intended to be public as search results. I should start again.

i am thinking of doing a complete redesign. this time i will spend a lot more time on navigation.

there are a ton of free sitemap creating utilities online. let me know if you have a problem finding one and I can post a link.

:) My site has been redesigned now, as I finally got Netobjects on the broadband PC. However, it's a [i:122d6cc747]little bit unstable[/i:122d6cc747] (hehe) and I've seen the blue screen of death more times in the last week than I'd like to in my lifetime. Damn windows 98.

See my site map for an example. *BTW, I didn't [i:3318d740cd]buy[/i:3318d740cd] Fusion 7, it came free with my host (but the host is UK and Germany only).

I have always enjoyed simple sites myself. No Flash.. it loads too slow. Keep in mind a lot of folks are still on Dial-up modems, and a webpage that has slow response time, loads slow etc. may be a turn off to potential visitors. This is my opinion anyhow.. I'm outtie!! MissB

You are correct Brigid. You have to keep the web visitor in mind and try to build your pages around what they want and need.

[/quote:b9492b58a7] My site seems to go slowly on my Broadband line, although it contains only text, a few images and 1 java script per page (for the rollovers). It isn't my host, and it can't be the number of hits, so something else must be doing it.

I got it pretty quick.. not much lag at all. Have you got a bunch of pages in your cache?

fishdonuts change your sig. I told you exactly what you could do... i said post your spam to your site in my forum and i wont delete it! So do it already... :P

fishdonuts site pulled up quick for me
