Tom, Are we the only ones who say this project needs some improvement or does everybody think its gonna "succeed" just because Google owns it. First of all, I can't register, it says that I have to have a "friend" invite me to register, but what happens to those who don't? I guess its no use for me. And why does it have a lame, pink, tiny logo? and the design is too girly. I'm sure Andrey can do better than that! :wink: BTW - Orcut is named after its programmer.

good point about the invite! if everyone has to be invited, yet no one is, how the heck do you get to join it!
You need to have connections...someone from inside. they made it into elite google club :lol: The harder it is to get in, the more exciting it gets when you are actually there. :lol:
Ok, heres something funny: Yesterday, I had a dream, in which, I got a invitation from Mr. Orkut for me to join their site :lol: Dunno what happened next though :cry:

Thats some good advice. I went to the PubCon last week, and had a chance to meet a couple of gents that were mentioned above. It was an excellent trip (outside of the weather) and I learned a lot of good stuff.. I have a renewed vigor for the internet and all of the opportunities that it presents to everyone here..

yep, me, Brett Tabke (Founder of WebmasterWorld, and also a great guy), Larry Page (co-founder, Google), Sergey Brin (co-founder, Google), John Batelle (IT professor, battellemedia.com), Tara Calishain (ResearchBuzz and an author), Marc Cantar (probably the most popular guy on the net - according to orkut [he has 300 friends]), Peter Chane (founder of MSN search), Nick Wilson (a great CSS and web designer), Jeremy Goodrich (one of the "pro" SEOs), Nakul Goyal (another "pro" SEO), and about a 1000 other web professionals I've came across :P I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually love this orkut shit. I've chatted with like so many web professionals out there that I didn't know, and made friends with them (I have 42 friends on orkut currently :) ). So I guess without Orkut, I would just be my old self. I don't care about their design, or their logo, I just care about their service. I've tried Friendster and stuff, but they didn't really made any difference to me (got stuck on 3 friends :o). I'm actually glad I joint Orkut, I've chatted with so many professionals, taking advice, giving advice etc etc I wonder if this can get better when it comes out of BETA.

I didn't also say I spend 24 hours on Orkut, its just good to know some other web professionals out there and to be friends with them so we can exchange advice, promote each other, and so on. This will me in everything I do: --By taking advice, I can improve my site(s) --By being friends with them, I can get promoted. --By getting promoted, I can earn a few $$$ (these are real big pro's with big site's out there, 1 article bring me a few hundred unques) --And with the $$$, I can take my gf out or go out for a holiday (thats if - I'm really lucky and save all the money I get) Makes sense? See, orkut does help me get a good life!

It's amazing how much the internet can physically take over your life before you realize it... I've been an "internet widow" for years!! Definantely take your Girlfriend, wives, etc.. out!!... I say Saturday should be blocked ... Noone can post on Saturday anywhere... the connection must not be touched... go out with your current girlfriend, wife, family.. don't have one?? FIND ONE... take the plunge and ask someone out!! Valentines Day is coming .. step away from the computer! hehe.. couldn't resist... its that time of year... its a sore spot for most women! :wink:

Sounds like that is something else. You mean all the webmasters hang out and talk about how to make money and manipulate the search engines right under google's nose? Sounds suspect to me..
nah, not only webmasters, but marketers, geeks, TiVo-lovers, Linux lovers, Footbal lovers, basically all the topics in the world, ANY. There are communities in Orkut, there are tons of them, according to what you like, you can join the communities and answer posts. But Orkut is REALLY a big place for spamming, lots of people use the 'FOF' (friends of friends) feature to spam, what it does is, if I type a message, it sends it to all my friends, and even therir friends (1 level deep only), so they use that feature to promote their products and spread the word. But that is the only downside I've noticed about Orkut, everything else is just great. BTW, I made friends with a About.com editor, she edits http://marketing.about.com , Laura something, she has a vast knowledge of marketing, good enough for me :D
