Ranking Problem.

It's definitely a factor. I would say that the two keywords "website development" is highly competetive. Perhaps add a word or two and go for a three word variation to get started. Are you in the top 1000?

Not that I know of, Searchey. This is weird because no matter how competitive my keyword is, I seriously doubt that I am worse then 1000 websites, but then again it might be possible. As for longer keyword phrase, what do I do with all the backlinks that have "website development" in there?

Have you added one bold and one italic occurence of the keyphrase on the main page?

I have that keyword in bold and I have it in <H1> tags. Is it possible that I over optimized index page and triggered the filter before even ranking? My keyword density for "website development" is just over 7%.

i dont think that would be overoptmized. thats just a clear way of making an ontopic page. i would almost guarantee your page is just too new. did you just get this pagerank on the last update a few days ago?

I disagree .. it may be too overly optimized.... I was at 7% for Frontpage Templates .. remember?? and the filter wouldn't allow me under.. when I dropped it down to 4% I was back in within a week... Plus.. 2 weeks and in one the highest competitive keywords out there.. chances are its going to take time and a lot of work... It's like my other keyword phrase: Web Templates... I would give ANYTHING to nail that one.. but its a fight that would cause me too much work right now.. I'm gonna start another site from scratch and build into it... Maybe try going for a highly searched but less competitive phrase to start?? and use the major competitive keywords on secondary pages until you can build up stronger??

I guess both of you, edwin and Andrea, are right. I want all of it and in 2 weeks which is not likely. :) At the same time I guess I kinda over optimized my page plus I'm targeting very competitive keyword. I'll work on all of that. Meanwhile, what are you guys using to find how many people search each keyword, I know that Overture has it but isn't it for overture and Google probably has something different?

yeah, it will take more than two weeks. but don't feel bad! everyone wants to rank number one! the toughest thing to do is be patient.

Use the AdWords campaign and check the status of your keywords.... it gives you how often its searched in the last month... and the $ of money that is shelled out which gives you an idea of how competitive it is... Overture does the same exact thing... I'd use both and get an idea what two different search engines say...

BTW.. Using it doesn't mean you have to go thru with it... after your done with searching your keyword... just close the IE Window and it removes all the "work" you did till that point :)

How many searches is enough to get good traffic to your website. I found a OK keyword but overture shows 260 searches. Is that enough?

i think the overture search numbers are for a month, so 260 is probably on the low side. if that is daily that will be enough.

I agree with Edwin.. if that is a daily count... not a horrible keyword... if that is monthly... Its a waste of your time.... My 2 main keywords are searched between 10,000-30,000/ month... I didn't forget to go looking and see if I could help you Andrey... We had the fire department here half the night last night when I usually work... (Yes, just some smoke and carbon monoxide damage.. no fire... everyone is ok.. minus my bruised hip from falling on ice and hurt foot from slight frost bite because I was barefoot.... Ok I forgot shoes .. but I wanted my children out.. thats all I cared about ..) I have to pick up a few things this morning then I will help you look also I think finding the good keywords is the funnest part of getting out there, and the worst....

Ouch, hope everybody's alright :) I guess it is a terrible keyword but design industry is so competitive in terms of keywords that there is tons of competition on any keyword, even a long one. Thanks for offering your help, I need it. I am usually creative but for some reason I'm stuck with those stupid keywords :x and I'm mad that I can't change around most of my backlinks. :( Thank you again, guys.

Yup.. everyone is ok.. :) Even the kitties :) Thanks! :) Its always hardest to do your own keywords... even for the most creative of people... because there are sooo many ways you can search for certain things... I will read thru your site and see if I can think of anything you haven't..

Thanks a lot, Andrea. I appreciate it.

the web design field may actually be the toughest of all. who are seos, after all but clever web designers? you definitely should start experimenting with minor league ppc. make up some sort of feedback form and send people to it. maybe get an answer or two to who is searching for what. i am beginning to think that vague terms are pretty useless. even the unsophisticated searchers are adding more words to their searches.

You are right about that, Edwin. The problem is that all keywords that people search a reasonable amount of times are already filled with optimized websites. What is left are the long keywords that are search 200-300 times a months :( . PPCs are useless for me because there is so many designers out there...I am continuing to work with the local market so I'm in no rush here. Currently the best way to go is make custom deals with any websites that provide any kind of services related to web design. It all takes time and I'm trying to be patient and don't give up.

Well, my suggestion is the following. If you don't know how to optimize properly (I mean optimize to perfection) try to find less competitive keywords with a reasonable abount of searches. About 1000 a day would be great. If you know how to do it, keep the hard work and wait. The results will come and for sure will be more profitable. Optimize for keys with more than 100,000 searches a month. Actually we are working in keywords that are searched more than 2,000,000 a month. Just waiting for results, they will come for sure. Good Luck Ivan

its a reasonable suggestion. lets face it, if you can grab 100 minor phrases it adds up to a major search easy enough. but i think you have a good idea andrey with the partnerships. approach the sites that already have targeted traffic and work with them. that might be the fastest approach.
