copyrights and images

Famous people are generally "public domain" due to the fact that they readily allow themselves out there... IE: Bush, etc... you can always put up a picture of them.. HOWEVER... Whomever TOOK the picture does hold copywrite.. Generally you can find pictures of just about any famous person that is technically "royalty free" or find one that states you can use this picture as long as credit is given to the artist or photographer... A lot of pictures can be found strewn across the net.. the same picture over and over.. and generally it is ok for you to use it... or at least people tend to whether or not they are suppose to... Never use a picture from a magazine or newspapers website .. because they can and will sue...

thanks for that info. that is sort of what i figured. because there sure are a lot of images out there that look the same.

If you put yourself out for the "public eye" .. you no longer own your own rights.... Thats why "Cops" and other shows like that have to get model releases.. because the people in those shows didn't ASK to be on tv.. they had no choice... Generally if you're not going to get paid for the Bio, and its a standard "fan" bio.. I'd say grab whatever image on the person you've seen more then 5 or 6 times and go for it....

A good check is to do a google image search on the person, and see if you can find an image, like fpword said, appears more thne 4-5 times. Google Images search will save a lot more time then going from page to page :)

yeah thats a good idea! if i search by filename i will probably find the same image over and over.
