Yahoo Has New Results

They are the Inktomi results which seem to have incorporated some link popularity in their algo. These results will also be used in MSN so anyone ranking high in Ink should also rank at the top in MSN. If you have this update down you are looking at big traffic increases from all the engines.

Oh wow, what a never ending hastle this is.

It's official, the Google dumping has begun This new Yahoo is looking pretty good!

What about MSN? Anny new updates on their own spider they were building? Yahoo does look good and I am happy for them. Finally this stupid Google domination is coming to an end. Imagine how nice it is going to be to optimize for 6-7 search engines at once (they are all going to be Ink for example) without worrying that you might not rank good on Google.

MSN is going to probably use Inktomi for the rest of the year. They admitted that their bot isn't ready for prime time yet. Yahoo is probably going to use a combination of their different engines. The truth is they can take from traffic from Google with good results.

First forum were I am not the one to post this topic. This is huge news guys. Have you contemplated what this means. Optimizing for yahoo and google! Yahoo's results suck in my opinion. I was the same website for 1 keyword about 20 times.

I think it's healthy to have more engines competing. The way it is now, Google is just too big for their bridges. The only problem is that the results seem to be alternating so much between searches. Still a lot of flux in the Yahoo results. But being able to place high in MSN and Yahoo is an inviting proposition.

These listings (for us) are even better than the new google listings!

these new yahoo listings are a thing of great beauty! this new future might be a very exciting time!

Yahoo results are looking perty good to me! It is an exciting time to be competing in the search engine arena. Sort of reminds me of the old Gladiators in Rome. The finest webmasters know how to take out opponents with the brush of the sword. :)

Let the games begin!

Since we brought up Rome, we should mention Julius Caasar, who said: Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Although the original phrase is oft-misquoted, what it means cannot be ignored when it comes to Google. If they are allowed to grow any bigger, unabated, and they will be too dominant to serve anyone except their own interests. The competition is sorely needed.

Isn't it Julius Caesar who also said: "Men willingly believe what they wish." We all wanted change and scandals, didn't we? Well we got Google with it's Florida update. Websites went down for a while but we believed that it's over and the end of the world is near. I guess life profs us wrong all the time...

Good call. And it's fun quoting Caesar at a webmaster forum :) People saw the power of getting all their traffic shut off from one source and I'm pretty sure no one liked the power that Google arrogantly wielded as always. Let's face it, this company is a customer service nightmare. They're not going to be able to maintain a good reputation with their high handed tactics. They do these updates like they are Caesar. So we only have a simple choice. We can blindly accept their rule or fight back against Google. It looks like Yahoo launched the first offensive and they have a LOT of traffic to deliver. People forget they are still the number one Traffic website on the Internet.

I think Yahoo is more of a key player than Google. I have never used Googles news portal. I have always used Yahoo. I like having traffic from all of the above. Google is just coming in late in the game. They are trying to be a "stand alone" search engine, and if nothing else you have to give the credit for that. Let's see if they have enough power to carry the load on their shoulders!

I think many people underestimate Yahoo. Their deal with SBC is sweet. They have millions on-line using their portal. For them to dump Google is inconsequential. They offer so many other revenue streams than Google it isn't funny, and how will Google catch up? Google is going to start offering email at this late stage? How can that help? Yahoo is a much bigger company. Ever since Semel took over they have become a real business power house. I plan or rolling with Y! and keeping my eye on Google

I'll keep an eye on the Y, survive or die.. Google is still small in comparison to Yahoo. Maybe it a will be another David Versus Goliath?

more like goliath versus godzilla. the yahoo results are looking good. but i don't think pfi inktomi counts and i don't think these results are using inktomi. i think yahoo is a hybrid search.

Nope, these are not Google's, neither Inktomi's. The results are from Yahoo!'s own database, collected by its own spider, using its own ranking algorithm. Looks like they've been combining elements of the many search engines they purchased. I think they will have a very good chance of delivering more relevant results, especially if Google keeps playing around with their algo. I still question the size of the index though. The main reason that Google provides so much traffic is that they have so many pages in their index. I doubt Yahoo plans on crawling as deep or of being as complete of an index.

Google is dead Long live ???
