Easiest way to get bid's from designers

You need a design job done? Depends on the design, etc.. Most of those places like "elance" etc will not be worth much because your getting bids from people who either think they know way more then they actually do, or they are "hungry" and will take on jobs for little bits of money and give you "little bits" of quality... There are a few diamonds in places like that, but it is few and far between. Because of the dotcom market, and so many people losing jobs (which hit so many of my friends) finding quality people is easy, finding quality people at a fair price isn't... What kind of job do you need done? I know, have on staff and/or can do several varieties of jobs.... So maybe I can help you find someone, my resources are actually quite great...

Hi ! I use only RentACoder.com to find new freelance projects. And I have 100+ completed projects last year. In opposite to elance - no need to pay subscription. I publish description of RentACoder here: http://www.takereal.com/rentacoder/default.asp If you want to read more - my brief history at "Rent A Coder" -- Sergey.

What is your coding specialty?

That would usually be the time when I come in and start telling people how good Stormex is and how you should try it. And it was true when I worked there. Now they suck  ...and I'm kinda happy about it :o I heard rentacoder is pretty good but I think they sent out the project to like 100s of designers. I'm not sure maybe its not true...Sergey, is it true? Andrey

100's of hungry, out of work, bored, and/or inexperienced designers and coders bid on those... They are a great place for small jobs... but you have to remember the theory you get what you pay for... Rent a Coder takes jobs worth a LOT of money and has people bid as low as possible... I live with a coder and work with dozens of them.. and neither would touch rent-a-coder because they wouldnt' get paid enough and the clients tend to want blood for sweat... I wish we could find the awesome coders (because there are a lot of them) who have been reduced to having to use rent-a-coder because of layoffs and life and build them a site that gives them the opportunity to actually get paid a decent wage for their work...

Andrea, we tried :( Unfortunately, we were faced with the same problem when working at Stormex. People ask for ridiculous things, like 10 pages site with tons of features for 50-100 bucks. Designers were not too happy about it but who can blame them. Most of the those customer would probably go for template rather then customer design and thats where TemplateMonster is the king. Personally, I think it is going to get better because US economy is recovering, it will be easier on the businesses and people will start working for themselves. At the same time we see increase in online shopping, online newspapers' traffic as well as overall flow of consumers online. That means that all those businesses would need websites, databases, shopping carts, etc. sooner or later. Let's just hope for the best. Andrey

Believe me I know.. Unfortunantly we live in a world where people expect the world for nothing... They don't understand the work and time involved stress that it takes to program and create these dream sites they want... Altho I've been very lucky with 80% of my custom client list... because they usually become custom because they tried and failed miserably... Thats why Andrey I had a rough time talking the designers into joining the other program... they didn't want to get caught in the whirlwind of 1 week projects for 50$... its impossible to avoid them... Ahhh well maybe someday.. LOL

I'll be around, working out new ideas. For now I'm still in thinking mode and working with the local market. If I come up with something good, I'll be sure to tell you guys.

At least the market is opening back up to tech people... there seem to be more jobs available then there was a year ago... so at least they aren't all out of work anymore

[quote:c8452f7cb5="BigRob"]What is your coding specialty?[/quote:c8452f7cb5] First of all : I don't want to be involved into end-less projects. In each 2+ weeks project - buyer should be perfect project manager. But I don't want to test him: perfect/not perfect. So, I prefer not big projects: my task should be as clear as possible. If I can understand how to well test my result - I can do: ASP, PHP, Perl

[quote:8f97616932="DesignVelocity"] I heard rentacoder is pretty good but I think they sent out the project to like 100s of designers. I'm not sure maybe its not true...Sergey, is it true? Andrey[/quote:8f97616932] Usually 10-20 bids for each project. Very important: when you place your bid - you can't see other bids. And when buyer accept bid - he can "privatize" auction, so no way to see how many(and how much) bids received. In result - more realistic bids." "100s of designers" : When I try myself as "buyer" and post auction "$100+ One concrete website downloader + viewer" - I receive 2 bids only. Surprise for me.
