why would you have a database if you weren't going to use it? Explain to me, did yahoo use google's AND their own database or what? I'm confuzled by that.
Maybe yahoo is using a combination of their aquired and newly developed technology, making some hybrid results.. as good of a guess as any..:)
Ricky, Yahoo until very recently used to license the results from Google so the results on Yahoo were almost identical to Google. This just changed this week. This new index looks like a hybrid between several engines. But Yahoo is already sending a good bit of traffic.
I read somewhere that Google already dropped from around 80% of all searches to about 51%. That is pretty serious and I would imagine that it's not happening without Yahoo's help.
fwiw, yahoo traffic is up! i see many referrals from search.yahoo.com i also saw a spider called help.yahoo.com the sleeping giant has awoken
Yahoo had 111 million unique visitors in December of 2003 according to comScore Networks, Inc. Google is listed as 5th largest, but consider how many of the people come from "Powered by Google" buttons. On Wednesday of this week I'll be listening to a presentation by Tim Mayer of Yahoo at the PubCon. Perhaps he'll reveal some cutting edge information which might be useful.
Cool that means you'll be in "the know" You'll have to let me know if my guess from the other day was right or not!
111 million uniques! Now that's a goal.
That is an enormous amount of eyeballs. I'm sure you will learn some good stuff webmastery. Have a good time :)
I'm sure I will. I'm leaving in a couple hours. It should definitely be interesting to hear the speeches by Google and Yahoo!
well i hope you learned a lot! please post the info when you get back. i am very interested in the yahoo research.
Well I have a ton of information concerning the new Yahoo Search, straight from the horse's mouth. Yahoo is moving forward using Inktomi results. They are dumping the Inktomi name brand. Altavista, Alltheweb, and Yahoo will all display the new branded Yahoo results. They are deep-crawling right now and promise to have as big of an index as Google very soon. I will be posting from my 80 pages of notes over the next few days. Yahoo is definitely alive and well in the search engine game.
You can also count on my notes. I heading to the Search Engine Expo in NYC on Wednesday and it should be a very interesting experience. I am really looking forward to it and I will try to get as much useful information from them as possible and post it here of course  .
My guess is you're going to love it, Andrey. There were a ton of really nice people and the speakers were very good. This industry is on a major upswing and the time is right to learn as much as possible. After this week when we've posted all of our notes we should have enough current information for anyone who needs to rank in the search engines.
and lets face it. msn isn't going to stay quiet forever and they aren't going to use ink results forever.
I think with the amount of people switching to yahoo mail the yahoo search will just continue to rise.
