[quote:cea4d1aaea="feathers"]I attended the conference also, and learned a lot of really good stuff. [/quote:cea4d1aaea] For those who don't know, we're married and attended together. We weren't the only husband and wife combination there either. We met several of them. It seems that more and more people are very interested in working for themselves these days.
well you learn something every day :) i plan on getting rich on the internet. i mean really, really rich. bling
You guys are married? That's cool 8) What else did they have to say there? I know things really seem to be in flux out there..
I'm going there tomorrow and Wednesday, I'll keep you guys posted.
Well this is great! You guys post whatever you know. It's great to see us on the leading edge like this :)
Just returned from the first day. I am actually a bit disappointed because I imagined it to be much more informative :(. I didn't pay for the sessions so I was left with is to torture se representatives, which was interesting but again not too informative. Still no one told me how to start making millions online, dammit...please excuse my language :).
Were you allowed into the sessions?
Nope, I got a free access . I figured $500 for a couple of hours of sessions is too much, now it is possible I was wrong :?. There is still hope that Tom will supply us with good info .
Your just learned one of the first and most important rules of Web Marketing: nothing is free!
Yep Brigid.. almost 9 months :D There is a lot of stuff to know. Like everything is changing for all searches. The things that used to work in the past, are not going to be as powerful today. I would say a "big" site is going to be favored for sure. so there is a bit of info. I hope that it helps!
Hey, I'm still very young. Gotta learn from your own mistakes at some point, why not now?. Still got a lot to learn and still have desire to...I'm still in training :). But you are right, nothing in this world is free. Did you pay? Still was a nice experience to talk to Google and Yahoo representatives, to connect some names with the the faces.
Not a problem. I paid the money. I have 80 pages of notes and I plan on sharing, so there's no trouble. You are still on the cutting edge :) Here's What's Happening at Google Enjoy!
Thanks for this useful info. Lets buckle up and get ready to whatever Google prepared for us. P.S. i never considered myself to be in the cutting edge but thanks anyway .
Who did you get to speak with from Yahoo and Google? They both had very nice presentations at PubCon..
He-he, I don't remember their names :). There was a guy of Chinese background who was pretty nice and some Adam guy from Yahoo. I am not really sure about their full names. I just asked Yahoo guys about what they are their future goals and what are they doing right now and well...i got the answers which i already kind of knew :?. It's also funny the way Google was stationed there. They got the biggest booth in the whole expo with nice decorations, nice table with three guys sitting in front of their macs and typing with serious expressions on their faces. No people next to the booth and no one wants to talk to you unless you are like: "Khhmm, hello...is anyone available to talk to?!" I guess they have interest in new customers cause they know they are going to have enough anyways. They were just there because yahoo and others were there. Sometimes I hate that character in Google...
Google gave out $300 AdWords vouchers at their table at PubCon. Any such luck at your event?
..you should always ask for a business card, if they have one. It is never a bad idea to "network" with people..it may come in handy some day! ..especially if you are planning on making a living on the 'net. :)
Whenever you're dealing with a Search Engine Representative, make sure to introduce yourself and get an email address. You never know when that could come in handy!
Nope, I would've noticed something like that. As for the business cards, good point and I'll remember to do that next time, thanks for the tip. I'm still "green" in terms of events like that
Matt Cutts of Google was surrounded as if he was a rock star with tons of adoring fans. One guy even travelled to the event just to lobby Matt for re-inclusion in Google. He said Google never answered his emails and he was a pro-active guy. I'm not sure if he got back in, but you just never know. You have to admire that resourcefullness.
I guess it was a bigger event in Cleveland then in NYC, although that seems weird...
It was in Orlando, FLA. There were 600 attendees. They were all members of WebMasterWorld Here are the actual pages for the PubConference.
It was in Orlando, but the weather could have doubled for Cleveland :) It was a great time, the people were all very nice, and I have a renewed faith for "being online" Internet revenues have increased 25% in the last quarter alone! That is a lot of money being spent online. The numbers that some key speakers dropped were awe inspiring, and if I had doubt before, I don't anymore..
So you went to that big Orlando meeting. I read about it online. Very nice. I'm glad the numbers were inspiring but unfortunately not everyone is able to get the piece of the pie at this point.
I guess it is how you look at things. When you "invest" in your profession, you make the money back, and then you make some more.. There is still a lot of time to get to work. Sometimes you just have to look outside of your "box" for a minute to realize what sort of potential is really out there. That is what the conference did for me, anyhow. There were a lot of very intelligent people, even presidents of very well established businesses. Having the chance to talk with them, and others in this profession in person made me feel like I was part of a much bigger world (if that makes any sense) ..and it also affirmed that online is where I want to be in the future :)
i'm saving money for it now!
Sometimes you need to spend money to make money but not always. The good thing about search engines is that you can experiment for free. If you don't have to earn your living from your website you can try many different techniques in the search engines and see what works. The fact is, they are making so many changes that the only way to stay on top is to experiment. I would imagine that most of the info on the forums concerning search engines is probably a good 6 months behind. Many people end up doing "what used to work" rather than what works now.
you don't have to wait too long to see how your experiment turns out either. everything gets sorted out in a week or so for the most part.
