AskJeeves to acquire $343 million worth stuff.

you can get a lot of stuff for $343 million!

*counting on fingers* Herm, that's about 343 million dollars more than i ever owned.

On the serious note, Jeeves is trying to get into the search domination race but it is way behind in comparison to Google, Yahoo and even MSN. We are well aware of what Google can do, Yahoo has the highest traffic and now it acquired half of alternative search engines as well. MSN is still behind but it has a secret weapon, Windows. It is going to use it's secret nuke as soon as the new Windows come out. And you gotta admit, My MSN is awesome, in terms of design at least. As for AskJeeves, they still have a lot of work to do to get on the same level as the rest. All I know is that the more search engines competing out there, the better it is for all of us.

everyone is fighting for eyeballs.. the more the merrier! it really makes depending on one engine for your traffic sound behind the times. a mix from many is much better. microsoft isn't going to go down quietly, either. so we'll see what they have in store for 2004.. or 05 as the case may be..:)

i can't see what ask jeeves is all about. what crowd do they appeal to?

Kids. Childeren. Teachers. I recently went to a school here in NZ, to give a presentation on 'web searching for research projects', it seems that lots of them knew Google as the main web search, and 'if you needed to ask a question' they said, 'go to AskJeeves', 'Jeeves helps you out'. And the teachers agreed. I don't know if kids like AJ in the US, but they sure do in NZ.

good info. i have no idea who uses it here. i don't get much from it myself.

They're following one of the great principles of marketing: get the kids hooked on something early. The results just look fake to me. They need to re-arrange their page space a bit.

Their database is older than LookSmart/Wisenut IMHO, they need to update that too. BTW, its not AskJeeves's own search engine, its Teoma's. AJ acquired Teoma in 2001 or 2000 - not sure, but Teoma owns the system, AJ owns the brand - very similar to what Yahoo is currently doing with Ink.

have you ever met anyone who used wisenut?

nope, not really.

Nor have I. Their Alexa rank is sort of low too.

Just though I'd some clear stuff up for newbies.. Don't get confused, these are same engines with different sites: Wisenut - LookSmart Teoma - AskJeeves Inktomi - Yahoo? Sid

Yeah. And also, MSN is Inktomi for the forseeble future.

Any good engines im missing. Pm me as well.
