It might mean 2 things: 1. Anchor is extremely important to Google, which is true anyway. 2. Keyword is not competitive and in order to keep results relevant, Google shows site that have to do with the keyword even if they don't have it in title, body or H1 tags. Or it might be both. Google has to show results for most of the keyword (that make sense of course) and if no sites are "perfect" for that keyword they will show the next best. All I can say is good job on finding good keyword
there's one million pages, so there is a bit of competition.
Not competitive? This is keyword diets, baby ;) Even the phrase quick diets has hit page 2. Again, it appears only once. Let's put it like this: Anchor text is the MOST important factor that Google uses. This means the current results are "pre-Florida" and they are using an algo very similar to the one before 11/2003. Anchor text appears to be pretty big in New Yahoo too.
when i said not competitive i meant in terms of the phrase. It shows a lot of results that have diet, quick or both somewhere on the page. If you are targeting this keyword and have complete phrase in the title or those 2 words together on your page then naturally it will be more relevant then those thousands of results it shows.
Check out this search for computer Check out the page that is number one. How optimized is it for the word?
 i would say apple computers are a pretty good match for "computer". and dell is good too...so is compaque, computers.org, compaque, computer world. Yep, all very relevant 8)
but how does google know those sites are relevant?
Also if you analyze the meta tags for this page...[b:2b7e5f2f6d]fast diet[/b:2b7e5f2f6d] is nowheres to be found in either the title ,description, or keyword tags. The keywords found on the page: diet - .86% diets - .39% It's almost as if Google is actually relating other relevant phrases through the site and making the link between whats on the website and what it's perseption of what people want to find and transfering it to the keyword "Fast Diet". Just because there is lots of relevant diet info there. One thing I noticed also is the list for "keywords found on page" is extremely long compaired to my site. Looks like there are lots of keywords found this site is targeted for. Also...ever thought about this..... what if featherish.com has an extremely high click through rate on its google ads? Ive often wondered if Google gives any special treatment to sites who do well for them. If you think about it....why wouldnt they move sites who make them more money towards the top. I don't know..just a couple of "grassy knoll" theories. Hawg
That's a very nice analysis, Fyrehawg! The keyword density is basically non-existent. So Google is inferring the meaning of the page based on what the site is about. Could it be other factors as well? Sure, why not. Point in fact, Featherish has always used Google Adwords and has a historical CTR of around 4.0 for the phrase "free diets". So they can be safe to assume the site contains info about diets. They know a lot about the site from ALL of their data and can make inferences more easily.
I like to think so.. Traffic overall has saw a significant boost across the board from all search engines. Anchor text helps.
Just another fine example of ..." [b:0229d4535e]Content is King[/b:0229d4535e] " It's funny .. of every route you track in trying to understand how to get the best of these search engines... it always leads you back to " [b:0229d4535e]Content[/b:0229d4535e] " When I first started trying to learn about this...someone on this board told me don't worry about the other factors much. If I would just add one page of good content everyday..in a year I'd have one heavily used and heavily indexed website. I think thats the best advice Ive received to date.
It's always going to be content in Google. And the bigger the site, the easier it is to be sure about the topic. If you keep adding pages, and they are all on topic, eventually you get to the top anyway. The only difference between spammers and regular people is time frames. If you have a year to build a site, then build it the right way, one brick at a time and it will get rewarded.
content is king. unless you have a crapola affiliate site. but ya still gotta eat so link become king! :D
What is content for some fields? I guess if you're very creative you can come up with some content for almost any subject but some of them have to be harder than others.
That was a short lived number 1.... I do not see it anywhere on the first page now for fast diet or fast diets.... what happened?
[quote:5e7971d924="AussieWebmaster"]That was a short lived number 1.... They're using 8 different algos now to keep things fresh. This particular phrase is still in the top 15, but we could always check tomorrow and see if it goes back up.

Just far enough to drop to number 15. It did ride the number one for the better part of 3 weeks though. Looks like a minor pull back in anchor text value. I guess at this point, the words "fast diet" could be added to the page. That ought to bring it back to the top.
