I think what everybody is saying is (1) no matter what file you use, you simply upload it into your website and provide a link for people to click to it (just like we do with pdf files) and (2) the reason you want to use a common file is so people can use it without having to download something new to view it with. My reccomendation is just try it. It is the only way to get a feel. The only warning I have is check your transfer limits with your hosting company.

unless of course you give the directive to right click to download or left click to watch online *shrugs* that's what i usually see. i personally love the .zip extension and think it's a sacralige if you don't have winzip, or the unstuffer thing for apple.
Some ISPs (like mine) are not multi-media-friendly & don't allow audio or video files on their servers. You might upload it, then it just "disappears"!Check the ISP conditions & info.
