It sucks. Just like Google. So its a good fit.
undecided..it's definetly nothing special or a big jump from what it was. hawg
On the local news today they were promoting the idea that Google now offers free email. I guess they realized how late they are in the "personalization game" and are trying to jump in now. Yahoo and MSN have a big head start on those features though. It almost makes Google look like a wannabe.
Supposedly it comes with a 1 GB mailbox size. That would definitely put some pressure on both Hotmail and Yahoo. There boxes are quite small in comparison. 16 million spammers could not be happier :)
The fact that they're storing email forever in the new Gmail is interesting. More and more data mining coming for the hapless consumer. Why would people want a third party archiving their personal correspondence. It's truly baffling to me.
people don't read the tos. they just click on agree and don't worry about it.
These new moves by Google strike me as a bit cheesy. They plan on scanning emails and archiving them forever. But I also wonder about these ads they plan on displaying? That seems very intrusive to me. How will they base what information to target ads on? If you're reading a personal email, wouldn't it be a bit creepy to see an ad targeted at something you're reading? ICK.
Nobody is too impressed with this one: privacy concerns "If millions of people have their communication history kept on Google computers," Davies said, "then that storehouse becomes a very valuable source of information for a range of unintended consequences." That is very true. That much data cannot be stored for truly benevolent purposes.
Bad publicity on the news. Heat from watchdog groups. How great of a strategy is this?
google is getting unpopular fast! i now here negativity concerning them quite a bit where i didn't used to.
^-^ archiving email? i was going to use Gmail! i heard the mailbox was bigger and i needed that...but, man, no way do i want them to have MY email. who do they think they are? on the new interface, i dont like it. it allready loaded fast enough, and the tabs looked nice.
good thinking rickyjo. not only do they archive the email. they archive it indefinitely! even after you delete it! something sinister there.
They need to archive it and scan it so they can match ads. Nothing sinister. Just blind greed! :P
massive invasion of privacy they really stepped into it with this one!
google greedy? never!
They still haven't announced that they're going public yet. I wonder what the hold up is.
probably all these scandals!
it seems yahoo has a good reputation for fight and spunk, and still isn't having any grey spots. it's like, the only giant i haven't heard bad thigns about. am i right? is this the only giant not in trouble now?
yahoo never lied about their intentions to make profits. i don't think anyone is offended by their tactics. google spent a lot of time talking about "not being evil" and things like that. i think they disillusioned people when they became more greedy.
They all look out for number one! That's just the way it is.
gmail public relations is a fiasco! i see this as a very bad move. only the slowest people are still unconcerned with googles attitudes toward privacy. they want to be the worlds biggest data mining company. that and the richest stock.
