keyword explanation and help

hey, fh, no problem on asking questions, that is pretty much the point of message boards like this. we'll use a specific example: duck hunting first let's name the page: duck-hunting.html would be a perfect name. we want to link to this page from a link called "Duck hunting". for the first words of the title tag we want "duck hunting". for the first words of the meta content and meta description tag we want duck hunting. pretty corny so far? we're not done. we want the H1 tag to read "Duck hunting". We also want a bold occurence of [b:9dcc749235]duck hunting[/b:9dcc749235] and one italicized version of [i:9dcc749235]duck hunting[/i:9dcc749235]. now, for the content of the page we want to use the words "duck hunting" to the tune of 5% keyword density. if we do this, you will probably get in the top 20. if you add links that point to duck hunting, we may just land a top 3. i hope this example is as concrete as possible.

That helps alot..im so general in what type of hunting or fishing it would be tough to single one out. Im just gonna keep adding site specific content and hope the bots like it. Ive set my keywords to the most popular searched things to do with hunting or fishing..now I'll just add content to give the people what they are looking for. I guess it makes sense...if the majority of the people are searching for fly fishing...I need to set my keywords to fly fishing and have alot of fly fishing info. Thanks for the answers.

for three and four keyword phrases you will have no problem seeing immediate placement improvements just using these basic techniques. keep us posted on your results.

Here's a page which calculates your keyword density: http://www.keyworddensity.com

wow tom, I have some work to do then... I never knew anything about keyword density. I have no h1 tags in my entire site. .the last words of every title are the corresponding keyword but 'Free Webmaster Resources - ' comes before each title. All links to content webbed outward from mainpage are linked well but there are no links back to my main page with the text 'free webmaster resources' just 'home'... ...if i corrected these problems how effective do you think the changes would be?

the fact that you put free webmaster resources in every title has you ranking pretty good for that phrase. you already have a 23 rank for "webmaster resources" so you may want to set your sites on that one, since it encompasses "free webmaster resources". probably leave the title tags the way they are. adding the H1 and H2 tags is a good idea. plus you can disquise them so they don't appear in their normal big head fasion. use a cascading style sheet (put it in as in include) manipulate the header in there like so: H1 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: BLACK; } H2 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: BLACK; } then when the users view it the text will appear normal. the spiders will see it as important header text. :)

Don't forget to keep the keywords you want at the very beginning of your page also. Google seems to give allot of weight to this. Also, it doesn't hurt to close your page with the same keywords and use the Alt Image descriptions as your keywords as well.

good point by chance. don't do what millions of people do and put their company name first. make sure to put your primary keywords first!

:D thanks!

:) BTW Everyone.. I sent this entire section of questions and answers to the entire staff here and everyone went bonkers... They said THANK YOU too all of you.. We used http://www.keyworddensity.com and compared our site vs the ones in similar categories as ourselves and we saw sooooo many things we had done wrong.. You guys are the best!!!

no problem! glad to hear we've been of some help :)

I'm hoping this is just the beginning of the knowledge share pool.... :D

Don't worry.. I'm sure there is many more deeper waters... Hope everyone has their swim suits! :D
