enigmadev aka Mike Pepper

Welcome Mike :welcome and thanks for sharing your story. So you have a parrot named DJ and a step-son who is a DJ. Do you have any trouble telling them apart?

[quote:430f3de785="raven"]So you have a parrot named DJ and a step-son who is a DJ. Do you have any trouble telling them apart?[/quote:430f3de785] Nope. They're both evil-minded SOBs :D Thanks for the welcome :)

:welcome Great intro post! I definitely like the part about the grimy, miserable town. I've lived in many of those. The only thing better would be if its always cold and rainy there :)

Very entertaining intro! Great to have you on board.. Did you get DJ the bird when he was a baby? I remember hearing somewhere that they can live to be almost 70! Sounds as if you have many blessings to be thankful for.. :welcome

[quote:827db85c79="BigRob"]The only thing better would be if its always cold and rainy there.[/quote:827db85c79] Ah, so you've lived here ... :) [quote:827db85c79="feathers"]Did you get DJ the bird when he was a baby? I remember hearing somewhere that they can live to be almost 70![/quote:827db85c79] I walked into a huge, noisy garden centre and saw him shivering with fright in a cage. Cant be having that, I thought, and offered the man some liberation funds ... that was 3 years back and he's now 5 or so. 70? Try sometimes 105! Not a word of bull. Which means I need to write him into the old will and setup a trust fund for him. Tell you what, he's really chilled out. He has grub in the evening with us: pizza, steak and kidney pie, loves roast spuds and chicken, but his favourite is rice and pasta. He knows he's loved -- and loves back unconditionally. Pity you can't do the same with people. You know, just show unconditional love or respect or consideration. Try that and people just think you're some kinda nut. Either that or you're after something. Funny old world. The things we most need are those we most easily decline. Still, it's Friday and the weekend beckons :D Thanks both for the welcome :)

DJ is one lucky bird! Pasta and Rice.. who would have thought? We have 2 cats. One of them is a handsome orange lad that is always hassling. His name is Fagan. I bought him for 10 dollars at a police station about 3 years back. He was SO little and cute! Someone found him wandering by a major highway and rescued him. (Or he thought he was a much bigger lad and decided to conquer the world by himself, he weighed less than 1 pound when I brought him home) He is independant and likes to stay up all night.. and keep everyone else up, too. Miss B is some kind of a burmese cat (or at least that is what the vet said) she is brown, aloof and pretty much only comes around when she feels like it. She was a rescued cat, so it's probably more her nature than anything else, but I still love her..

:welcome always great to have another bloke on board!

I'm a cat person also, feathers. I once had a friend of a stray queen who decided she'd adopt me. Took her to the vet to get her checked out only to find she had feline aids. Vet said she had a year at best. 8 years later she finally succumbed and I had to say farewell. Didn't have the guts to watch while the vet gave her the big sleep. I remember my blurred vision clearing as a tear splashed onto their appointment book. Her name was Tappet. She was jet black with golden eyes and oozed affection. A matriarchy, eh, Edwin. Wonder how long it'll be before I'm banned for unintentional sexist remarks  I shall have to watch me step :D

[quote:19198ad564]A matriarchy, eh, Edwin. Wonder how long it'll be before I'm banned for unintentional sexist remarks I shall have to watch me step [/quote:19198ad564] Banned? I don't think that has happened to anyone here. Getting banned is heavy handed...and isn't right. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because you don't agree with someone is no reason to ban them. That is my opinion anyhow. There are always a few sides to any story..

I was messing about, feathers. I moderate a hosting forum. Fortunately I've not had to deal with the situation. We've had an instance where a couple of members put up racy avatars but a quiet PM usually resolves matters. In fact, I've never been challenged sufficiently to ban anybody. Silly sods are usually simply ignored and then eventually wander off for fresh forums to be a twit on :D

Moderating isn't too fun. Luckily, it normally isn't an issue. Makes you feel sorta feel like an old school marm.

:welcome Welcome aboard, Mike, great to have you. You really should consider getting a doctorate. It would be great to be welcoming "Dr. Pepper" aboard right now :)

A while back I was IT manager for Thameslink, part of the then British Railways. One of my first tasks was to train up a bunch of train crew (once drivers who'd opted for the comfort of an office) who had been selected to man the new train control centre. It took a while to gain their confidence and friendship since I was viewed as a 'Manager' but the training went well and after a few weeks they were up to speed and adept with a mouse and capable with the new systems control software we'd installed. I remember an evening when we'd finished the formal certification and were having a few beers. One of then who'd done particularly well and was nominated team leader turned to me over his pint and asked 'So what made you stop being a doctor? Bet you got paid more then.' Chinese whispers had placed me in the medical profession and since the subject was broached only once the guys felt the management barrier had been safely breached, his next question - 'So what did you do to get the sack' - was the result of a few month's speculation as to whom I possibly killed or assaulted ... I'm sure a few of them remain confident I have a dark and possibly surgical past :D Thanks for the welcome. Hoping to be a useful, certainly active, if not necessarily productive member on the boards. Cheers, webmastery :)

howdy i get the feeling in a week or so we will know you're entire life story....

There's more than a week's worth of anecdotes in this thick old head :) How's your day going, oneill? Good to know you :)

my day is good although i am gutted we came 2nd last in the eurovison last night...bring back johnny

The UK didn't fare much better. At least the winners (Ukrainians) were a lively bunch of nutters :)

ye managed a few more points than last year anyway  i didn't see (or should that be hear) any of the songs... it's all politics anyway there's alway next year :D

[quote:23abb5eb6b="oneill"]ye managed a few more points than last year anyway[/quote:23abb5eb6b] Yeah :D Bit of a cock-up, that one. But as you say, it's largely politics, and the perceived harmony of the EU. What a load of bovine excreta.

Mike don't pay any attention to the guy that calls himself the Big Kahunna, he is mostly here for us to make fun of. A great man to laugh at and with, he likes being the boss of the coo coo nest. As far as that guy from Ireland, he is kind of a goof ball, but he is the richest member of the Group so we put up with him for some reason. If you look at his website, it will show you that he has so much money that we all have to respect him, we may not like him but no one likes Bill Gates, but we all have great respect for him also. This Edwin guy, well he is the smartest one here, but he has no money, his claim to fame is short and very sweet posts simply to stay the posting leader here. One day Edwin will become nasty as he ages or the Big Kahunna will make him a moderator here then we are all in trouble since he will start censoring everything in sight. O when a man gets power he always will start to abuse the rest of us...

Ah, anthony, I see you are the joker in the pack  Well, I've got a good welcome from all; that suits me down to the ground. I might suggest you have a natural propensity for making enemies :D Is it something genealogical or just bourbon  Have a good one, chum. And you never welcomed me, you git :!:

O Mike, O Mike, quit sticking up for these guy's they need no help, they are a vicious bunch. They take it, then dish it out. By the way, welcome to the forum, we need your knowledge of web development here. You guy's have someone to ask questions to now............ :P :D

that's great cos all we have is some that posts rubbish all the time oh whats his name.....you know the guy "the crap poster" or something like that.....

Thanks a lot Oneill, Mike I told you Oneill could stand his Ground. He has a sharp sword...... 8O

Mr Cea, the man gave respect, I have no reason not to reciprocate. Besides, I may learn from him if, as you suggest, he has a handsome return on his cyber investment. The day after tomorrow I will still be learning.

you can never stop learning the day you do is the day you're finished!

Too right oneill. That's the day the four planks of pine get dovetailed together. Bugger that!

On one hand we have a very smart EU web developer, on the other we have a very rich young Irishman. Now I do not want to try to fight against the both of you since I would be outclassed. I would say that this American can not compete against two of you Euro residents. But to stand up to either of you one on one, I take that challange any day.

whats that about

Beats me, oneill.

the toughest part of this place is figuring out who the craziest poster is.

What's what about, Oneill, this is about you two EU residents ganging up on a poor American. That's What!!! I know you two favor (favour) your own, since the American's got you out of here in the Revolutionary War. You still have this in you to beat back us poor old American's Just admit it guy's.... You can't overtax us here in the states, so you take it out on poor old Anthony, no more pile on's by Oneill and Mike on poor old Anthony, do we agree?               8O

And you Edwin, as far as the crazyest person on the board, that would be  :?:

I think I should point out that the Irish and Brits have had many disagreements over the year. :P

Not when it comes to Guiness, Searchey, one of the best pints ever :drunk :D

[quote:1115c737e0="anthonycea"]What's what about, Oneill, this is about you two EU residents ganging up on a poor American.[/quote:1115c737e0] when did that happen :? [quote:1115c737e0="Searchey"]I think I should point out that the Irish and Brits have had many disagreements over the year. [/quote:1115c737e0] lets not go there [quote:1115c737e0="enigmadev"]Not when it comes to Guiness, Searchey, one of the best pints ever [/quote:1115c737e0] in cork we all drink Murphys like.

So how many McLaughlins and Lallys live in County Cork? My people are from there. Maybe you know their descendants?

well cork is the biggest county and i can't say i know any McLaughlins or Lallys so beats me...

Thanks for the help. Good thing genealogy never meant much to me. I think they left in the 1920's so its not like you would have known them that well ;) Btw, nice job for all you guys on jacking yet another "Hello Thread".

yeah i get feeling i wouldn't have known them for some reason oh yeah and we do our best :P

thread-jacking is my specialty. no one seems to mind because i add value! :P

edwin is so full of insite!

yeah sure edwin value  oh yeah a lot of that alright....

RickyJo you could be banned by Edwin for saying he is full of it inside... 8O   8O 8O 8O 8O

i would never ban anyone even if i could! we need to get back on topic! this thread is a celebration of mike pepper! we need to post some mike pepper news or gossip or something in here :P

Yes Edwin, I like Pepper on my steak, but too much salt is bad for your blood pressure.    8O

anthonycea aren't you the one with a history of getting banned.... should be careful and stop going off topic!

Oneill you promised to be kind to me since I am a old man of 45, you yourself said you were not going to push me into my grave by giving me a heart attack. Well Oneill you are back attacking me, so don't be surprised if I put a bannana peel under your foot.    8O

[quote:187e622dc3]edwin is so full of insite! [/quote:187e622dc3] Insight. :) I know he's really into the into the internet, and is probably trapped "insite" though.. LOL
you guy's want to know why edwin and I do not post pictures of ourselves? because after looking at them the only two members would be me and edwin, as everyone else would run for the hills.

9 out of 10 posters never return after their hello thread has been jacked!

That old Brit will be back, he is just slow cus of Old Age Edwin.

i wonder how far we can take this...

i dont know!

Don't worry, that old fart from Enigma Development will be back, after all he feels sorry for us dummies. He knows we need his help, he is just making us feel the pain right now. When he comes back, the thread will have some life again, until then we can all pick on Oneill for placing a spyware link in his post's 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

and who was the fool that clicked on it. you know you should never trust an irishman

I can tell you he one of the foremost designers with great technical skills, on the cutting edge of web standards. I have looked at his site, the man is excellent at what he does. Check out the organization he linked to in his opening post. Hi Guys. I'm baaaack :D Just bloody busy. I'm admin for [u:af5f620970]GAWDS[/u:af5f620970] (Guild of Accessible Web Designers) and have been snowed under with applications for membership after we remarketed the Guild mid-May. It's been a bloody nightmare  Thankfully, we've now appointed 2 more admins so I can get more than 4 hours sleep a night. The workload was a bugger ... Apart from that, I'm on various advisory bodies and Net steering groups and they all take time and commitment to bring anything valuable to fruition. Time, time, time ... However, I've cut me some slack so can spend more time doing the rounds of the boards. Hope nobody took offence :) How are you all?

he lives! good to see ya again. :welcome back

:welcome back

Good to see you again, Mike :D

Damm well have missed you, Oneill has missed you and Edwin also, since I bust them up bad on a regular basis. They need someone to help defend them against the onslaught I put on them, maybe you can help them come out of their shells, it is overwhelming to get attacked on a regular basis Mike.   Glad you are back. 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O      8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

Great to have you back! That is one thing about being involved in all kinds of projects. There is only so many hours in a day to get everything done. How's life?

good..thanks...you

*tsk, tsk* ONeill.. That was meant for Mr. Pepper. We all know how you are doing.. :)

Doing fine, thanks :) And tomorrow morning UK5:30AM 6 of us are bundling into a cab to be dropped of at Heathrow Terminal 4 to check in and wait 3 hours before being whisked off in the belly of a Boeing 747 for the sunny Bahamas, arriving some 9.5 hours later ... where it'll no doubt piss down and put a dampener of my stepdaughter's wedding  However, at least it'll be a break because I've been disallowed my notebook pc by Maria, my partner -- which doesn't mean I can't take a paper notebook and design a few sites, do some business modelling and get on with it in a weird climate whilst downing Jack Daniels like there's no tomorrow :D So it'll be another leave of absence but this time for only a week or so :)

my gawd you lucky man! what part of the bahamas?

Uh HUh.. Come around right before a holiday and brag on it, huh? LOL! AnthonyCea is vacationing in Sunny Akron, Ohio right now..He was bragging on that in another thread..Edwin is vacationing at various waterparks across the land.. ONeill is a groupie, Ricky is homeless.. When does the insanity stop? LOL! **Feeling the salt on my wounds** Must be the life! I am looking to be there over as soon as I can get back.. Take lots of pictures, and have a safe trip..

Have a wonderful time, Mike! 8)

Good to see you having fun Enigma after the last few months of hard work. Keep your humor with you, don't pass out on the beach, great to see you back. 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O      8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

Ohh.. a wedding! Hurray! Have a blasted good time!

weddings are great!

Swing by and pick me up???

Flew in to Heathrow midday yesterday ... after having had a brilliant week. Made a load of mates on the islands. Some great characters out there. Slippin' skin and sippin' JD all week. Setup a couple of business deals (which got the Mrs a little peeved since I was meant to be on holiday ... but that's no reason business should stop!). We stayed at a place called Comfort Suites but were also entitled to use the facilities at a hotel just down the road, the Atlantis, and, boy, is that a hotel. It's huge. If you've got a grand or so you can stay there for a night. Yup, silly money. Maria (my partner) wander into a GUCCI store and was about to ask one of those elegant Hollywood-type assistants how much for a dress; I had to remind her if you need to ask, you can't afford it. So we went next-door where they have price tags; 150 bucks for a skimpy skirt with the vaguest pretentions to modesty! Just plain nuts. The wedding went well (apart from one piece of luggage lost containing the bride's father's suit and rest of his clothes ... and a small error over the wedding location ... but that's another story -- at least we were on the right island). Great time :D Got back to 500+ emails and have been trying to catchup. This was a bout 50 on the list ...

Welcome back, Mike! Glad you had a good time :D Is this #501 now?

Me and the wife went to Nassau, Bahamas for Christmas last year. The first vacations I took in 13 years were last year: Honeymoon in Las Vegas and Christmas in the Bahamas. Both were truly outstanding vacations. Being in Cleveland and suffering from freezing winters, the perfect fantasy vacation for me was the Carribean. When I went, it lived up to my expectations. We spent a week at Sandals (all-inclusive) and floating in the pool on Christmas day was one of the greatest feelings of my life. And yes, we visited the Atlantis and its just crazy. We didn't even see the whole thing all the we walked around for a few hours. What a great place and it sounds like you're one more satisfied customer.

I had a wander around Sandals. Actually met a couple of guys from Ohio, just outside Cleveland. We're planning on doing a 3-week stint December for Junkanoo. Just gotta get the money in ...

Glad to hear that you had a safe and enjoyable vacation! The Bahamas is heaven on Earth. Everyone there is friendly and more than happy to give you a cheery "Hello, How may I help.." What was the weather like?

It was mixed, Brigid. Mid-morning and late evening heavy showers but the day of the wedding was perfect with partial cloud and gentle breezes. They were married on a gazebo on the end of a pier (great if the groom has his trunks with him and has last-minute concerns). One evening gave way to off-shore thunderstorms, some sheet and forked lightning and the distant boom of thunder ... then it really poured down and we had to wait a while before walking the 1/2 mile back to the suites. I didn't care; weather like that is an experience in itself.

It is fun to see different weather in different places. You didn't have anything to do with this, did you? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040719/ap_on_re_eu/britain_missing_documents

That is a scary article, Brigid! I'm sure that Enigma isn't involved with any of it.. Nice to have you back! As BK said, we were there over Christmas of 2003. It was wonderful. We didn't go down to the Junkanoo, but watched a bit of it on TV.. it was pretty cool. Maybe we will see you there over the holidays?

i think i'll get married in the bahamas!

Edwin? Get married? In the Bahamas? Let us know so we can all be in the wedding!

Edwin you should get married right here at WM forums. Brigid are you married right now, if not we could have the first webmaster forum wedding, maybe we can have a contest to see who gets to marry Brigid on WM forums       Oneill got any more poems, I think you won Brigid over with the last love poem you wrote for her

ONeill went to Wales or something.. So now is a great time to talk about him behind his back..

first i need a girlfriend. but i will get married on a webcam! that way youre all invited.
