What Works Now

Good content, changing content, more content, updated content, relevant content. links from sites with related relevant content. Whole lots of unrelevant links are bad, RE Links are dead....Relevant links will take you to the top, but good links only.

Nothing works as fast as it did late last year. Everything seems to take a bit longer, especially for new sites. The "sandbox effect" which has been mentioned on multiple boards definitely has some merit. If they really are using a Sandbox for new sites, it would seem to be an anti-SEO measure of some sort. Otherwise, whats the advantage of squelching the new sites?

outbounds links is what works. tons of directories dominate tons of results. who you link to is now as important as who links to you.

Edwin, when you get your site up and running, I want to link to nerdsville... 8O

sounds like a plan. give it a few weeks.

Those directories are baffling to me. They don't follow the concept of an authority site that well. Many of them aren't even on the subject that they cover, they just have outbound links to other sites. What is the deal here?

Zeezo, is a directory site, the study of which is in http://webcenter.squarespace.com Edwin this directory was banned by Yahoo since we exposed this redirection of traffic into ADSENSE, Yahoo was indirectly sending traffic to a Google Adsense publisher. When I notified them that they were doing this, they banned Zeezo and removed all of their listings out of Yahoo. There are only a few left from thousands of subdomains that were there. If you look at the Webnox page in the above link at webcenter you will see links to the Google directory and Zeezo and Americascars.net Those links will show you all of this so called directories subdomains. This is nothing but a traffic highjacking scheme and a traffic redirection scheme back to Google's Adsense program. If you look at the links you will learn alot about this. Needless to say, many directories like this will be banned in the future since they are now known as traffic highjacking and spam sites, so be wary of placing links into unknown new directories since they become a destination site for your keywords and URL in the SERP's once you are listed in these scam directories. Most of the bad ones will be banned from the search indexes for the above reasons in the future.

when you say they were banned because of your efforts what do you mean? did google send a confimation email or did they just disappear? if they just disappeared it may be a fluke.

Yahoo banned them Edwin, not Google, Google is simply pushing them back futher in the SERP's

so yahoo actually responded to a spam complaint?

Edwin you will have to study the issue as I mentioned in my other post. This was more than spam, it was a traffic redirection scam into ADSENSE. Since these listings were in Yahoo (remember Google was providing Yahoo results until a couple months ago) they were indirectly sending business into Google's adsense program by having these listings in their search index. Yahoo did not realize this until I let them know, then they banned this directory. You will have to research the issue and let me know what you see.

i have researched it. my only question is do the search engines respond to the spam complaints with an email or something? do they say thanks for you spam report and we removed them?

They never take the time to thank anyone Edwin, they most of the time do nothing anyway. But in this case since it was such a scam by Google making so much money from the redirection of traffic to this very large ADSENSE publisher with thousand of subdomains, duplicate content and just about everything else that goes against their so called rules. Well when Yahoo realized that they were making Google rich by listing this traffic highjacking directory, they got wise and banned the directory. The lesson is, be careful where you submit your listings to, if the website or websites get banned, you may be penalized also. Good links are the only links to have, quality, not quantity.

i have always heard that you could never be banned because of an incoming link. the rationale is because if you could be then anyone could knock their competitors out of the index. you could set up a domain and get banned. then link to everyone you didnt like and get them banned. that could be dangerous.

Guilt by association Edwin, lets say you had thousands of links in Zeezo, what is to stop the engines from banning your URL's how would you know. When they discover link farms, they take everyone down, so beware of who you run around with online. If you get in with spyware sites and adware sites, you could go down with them, I don't think that will happen to you Edwin, you don't seem like a scam artist to me. Except when you and Oneill get at each other, O sorry Edwin. :D :D :D :D :D

the great edwin should cast his mighty powers on your head and make you plead for his mercy.

you got that right ricky!

Ricky Jo, When did Edwin give you the "Edwin Brainwashing Implant" , you hath not to fear Edwin in the dark of the night my friend. Edwin is simply the King of Nerdizim, remember a few of the words that Nerd rimes with, then you will know the truth about Edwin my son. 8O 8O 8O

What works right now is: 1) Big links from Authority sites 2) Lots of targeted links from various IPs 3) As many one way links as possible All of these things encourage building more useless sites on more ip ranges.

The reason directories can be classed as authority sites is because each subsection will have a related title eg computers - website design and every link normally has a little discription text underneath so content is related.

Has anyone any evidence of this being an issue or not? I'm reviewing the TOS from the brokers and not seeing that many specifics about this. Also, regarding linking schemes, what is the best way to reward or encourage users to put a link to your "community" site? Interested in your suggestions. Thanks...

Mike, if you would at my request please start a thread on FreeWebTown, you can use my name as the one who requested this so you don't look like a self promoter. What I would like to discuss is the concept behind the company, why you decided to create this site (what need did you see for the concept) and how it can help folks new to the internet get online. You will get more questions from all of us when you start the thread, please start it in General Chat. We want to grill you and I hope you are ready to give answers, I am sure it will be good for the members here to learn more about what you are trying to do with this. Don't hold back in giving answers to the forum please unless it is a trade secret. Thanks Mike.....

Hi Mike, Linking, as you described it, should not be a problem. But why is the Ad Server linking to you?

BK, I am going on strike if you do not put your old picture back up, the forum will never be the same without it. There can be no replacing that smiling face as you deliver your bad jokes

Not a strike! Luckily you don't belong to the Online Teamster's Union so I'm not sweating it too bad.
