BROWSER HIGHJACK

this stuff never happens to me.

Edwin, you sure did take a long break, I thought you died! Don't tell me this never happened to you, it has happened to me many times.

a long break? like 2 hours?

yeah, i got browser hijacks alot, i just use spybot, gets all the hijackers, but not so much the adware ^-^;;()

yes, I'm having a browser hijack, it is called "INCREDIFIND"...everytime the url does not exist, it redirects me to incredifind.com...it;s a pain.. Mihaela Emploi

See the instructions in the thread below, read the entire thread and you will find the instructions to download SPYBOT 1.3 it will remove your problem, after downloading the software you must check for updates daily since the profile is updated almost everyday. http://www.web-mastery.net/postt936.html

that's so annoying. too many spybots out there.

RickyJo, what you will find more troublesome is if you do not get the spyware off of your machine. Spybot is the program to do it, did you download the latest version or are you still sitting on the sidelines?

Nope can't say it's happened to me, but then I also don’t use IE. Maybe they should rename IE to HMP (hack me please) :: Side note :: Hell I don’t even run a anti virus or firewall and I don’t get squat, shows you what keeping current on window updates can do for you.

I got some news for you ANGRY, you better go get Norton antivirus today, and you better look at the page in this thread with the links and download the spyware scanners since you really do not know what is on your computer otherwise. No antivirus protection, means your data on your hard drive and your computer will be GONE soon. You can not even OPEN up a email from someone you do not know anymore since they do not need an attachment to let a bad virus loose on your computer. Get it together or you will lose everything

they dont need an attachment on an email to give you a virus? that's news to me. Can you elaborate, how do they do it? oh and yes, i downloaded the newest spybot, didn't help much. ran it, and i still had tons of adware, so then i downloaded ad-aware (again), and between the two i found it much more effective. i don't have anti-virus either, only because i have no money.

RickyJo these are computer hackers that write these viruses (code) they have made them so that just opening a email can deliver the virus. They are smarter than you and I, so you must spend the 35 dollars on Norton antivirus or you are going to lose your data and your computer one day. You must pay Norton a yearly subscription fee to keep the live updates. I pay only $14.00 a year for the subscription. The program itself you can buy at the store or download from www.zdnet.com, I think they even give you a free 30 day trial. Just get the antivirus, because Norton Internet security is a big comprehensive program that includes Email spam proof, ad blockers and a lot of other stuff, but it is to big of a download for most older computers. You simply need the Norton antivirus program. Also you must update the profiles on your spyware programs daily, if you do not you will never have the latest scanning profiles. They are updated daily. If you scan with both programs and update them you should have, NO SPYWARE on your computer. Pop up ads when you surf are not spyware or adware, most of the time they are just cookies that can be removed in your internet options, just delete your cookies and temporary internet files everyday and clear your history of sites visited also.

anthonycea Norton antivirus is in it's self it's own virus. Try uninstalling it once and then run your system, you'll notice a difference ... it will be FAST. Norton drain the life out of a pc like it was going out of style. And for "virus's" that can take advantage of your computer with out opening an attachment I know of only one, and that was the RPC whole which was fixed very promptly by MS and it was actually a worm. If you keep up on window updates and do responsible computing there is no reason you would fall prey. These are mad misconceptions put out there by people who make money on you thinking your computer is going go threw a melt down if you don’t have an antivirus and fifty firewalls on your computer it is BS to make money off the masses. Oh and I forgot I don’t even run the MS firewall. But I actually do know a few "hackers" and asked one to try to get into my very so called open pc. I gave him my IP and watched my traffic ... after five minutes he said screw it with the comment of it's too much of a pain in the @ss. Don’t believe everything you hear. oh yeah almost forgot this but they found crazy mad wholes in Norton’s just recently ROTFl, if I was a cracker which I am not I would have to say I would target MacAfee’s and Norton’s seeing EVERYONE seems to have one or the other ... the moral of the story is your never 100% safe and those who think they are end up being the least safe out of us all. Computing and using the internet comes with responsibilities and realities some of which is some day no matter who you are and no matter how well protected you are your going to get a warm or a virus.

[quote:4e2097679f="RickyJo"]i don't have anti-virus either, only because i have no money.[/quote:4e2097679f] Ricky, you can get free virus protection that is very good right here!

if this works i will be seriously happy :-D i'm going there now. how in heavens name do you justify this economically? free anti-virus? that's like a lot of work for nothing :-/ seems strange to me.

I use it on two of my computers and I have a few friends that use it also. You have to grab the updates manually (I check for new updates every day) but that's small cost for a free program that works. It has saved my butt a few times!

William, by your post you show you really do not know what you are talking about. The reason the Norton Program slows your computer down is because it is scanning the files coming in to protect it. As far as antivirus software being a virus, that also shows you just know very little. I could care less if you protect yourself, with your attitude you will not have a computer much longer, do you know more than Bill Gates? Why don't you go to Microsoft.com and look at their computer security pages and then come back and tell us all what THEY say about protecting yourself against viruses?

it's been running 5 min. and allready found infamouse the trojan horse  i dont know how that ever got there. thanks so much!

Rickjo do you run the Spybot 1.3 and update the profile everyday. You should do this, if you do not protect yourself against viruses and spyware you might as well just give up computing.

You're welcome, Ricky. To update the data file, just right click on the little umbrella you see on the taskbar and go to Internet Update. It will check to see if there's anything new and give you the option to download and install. I do this once a day.

RAVEN, WHAT IS A RICH guy like you doing using freeware? Did I just see you listed as a new moderator at web 25? Thanks for helping RickyJo Raven, that was kind, I was losing hope in him, Angry William is another story, I hope he gets wise soon.

Hi Anthony! First, I'm female - not a guy :D and yes, I am a Mod on top25web. motiv8x is a cool guy and I don't mind helping him out. As for using free programs, well, I don't see the purpose of paying money for something I can get for free. Why not? :)

You know Raven, I like you much more now, I am excited anytime I hear the word female. Sorry for straying off course. Yea, I just hope you don't get head strong and ban me over there, or here for that matter. How could I assume you were a guy all this time, wow, sorry, I am on my knees to beg forgiveness. Now that I know the truth I will alway be kind in your presence, just don't read my posts, I don't want you to know how mean I am. :?:    :?: 8O

Oh and Raven, now that these guy's know you are a fine lady, they will all answer each of your posts, even though they may not be interested in the subject matter, just you. Now you opened up a Pandora's box of attention for yourself, I hope you can handle the new workload. 8O 8)

anthonycea man you flew right over my point. I guess if you feel like paying $50 buck to think your safe fine do it, but they have found big holes in your beloved nortons. and for your information since I have built this pc (around last x-mas) I have had no down time of any kind for any reason. If you want to go back even further my last pc 2000+ suffered from a crap maxtor hd and no bugs on that one either.I do use spybot and ad-aware from time to time. I also only download from places I trust such as downloads.com or corp sites like macromedia or adobe. I also take other percautions such as dividing my hard drive in to multiple partions and and saving all my data off of my primary drive ( that bout be the C:/ ) tell me did you get attacked with "so big" , "Sasser", "Dabber". my guess is that your little av app didnt sound the bells ...

So what William they found a hole in one of the software programs in the past, ADAWARE and SPYBOT find new things to add to the profile everyday. Microsoft finds bugs in the OS everyday, do you expect Norton Antivirus to be perfect? So what they found a bug, it was patched over two months ago. Is it still a open hole? Do you tear down your house if you have a leak the the roof, no you repair it or you live outside William. Don't throw away your antivirus programs because someone had a problem with some code in the past. Do you quit using windows because of all of the holes in windows? No William, I have not been hit by any major virus, but the Norton Antivirus has caught many files, I have quarantened them and removed them with the program. They are not #1 for nothing William. Just like RickyJo found a trojan horse with the program Raven showed him, I will bet you have some stuff on your box too. I have had ADAWARE find trojan horse and browser highjacks also. I have had Spybot 1.3 find stuff that ADAWARE did not have in their profile. Spybot 1.3 even fixed the bug in the IE Browser from Microsoft. All I am saying William is that even a savvy computer user like you can do better, if you think you can just go along on your own without antivirus and spyware programs, then good luck. I am just trying to warn you to do better before you lose your computer. You never answered my question, did you go to the Microsoft.com site and look at their computer securtity page?

when i ran the anti-virus it found a trojan horse *shrugs* i hadn't even thought there would be something like that. i'm all for anti-vir. and it's free! yay! *happy dance*

I have never been hit maybe I am the lucky odd one out of the bunch I don’t know but if I am cool  and the point I was trying to make about Norton’s is that people think that av's are bullet proof and their not because they are designed by people. even the proud mac OS people who are always like windows is so crap and has all these holes have been finally shut up when mac osx was found to have several wholes that they had known about for some time and were to damn lazy to fix. I guess my moral of the story is that your never 100% when comes to security. I also find allot of the time when people call me thinking they have a bug it's nothing more than bit rot. I keep a copy of pc Collins handy from a mother board I bought some time back and when I think I have been hit I install it quick update it and do a check ( this way it thinks I just got it and don’t need to pay for the updates  ) and I haven’t had a positive id yet. The one thing I DO actually suggest is to turn off real time scanning it's a un-need drain on your pc. And to use pop3 scanning if your av has it. And calling Norton’s a virus was suggesting that it, it self does something harmful to your computer as in dragging your system down to a crawl. I should also state that I turn off some of xp's services to further reduce my risks. and for being redundant never open up exe's scr's and ect unless you know who they are from your trust the site. and my name isn't willum or whatever, my real name is shane. and I am very proud to say that I have taken my amd xp 2800+ (2.08ghz) and pushed to 2239mhz (2.24ghz) a little faster than a 3200+ and I just ordered myself a gig of giel ddr400 for the system :D :D :D I know that is off topic but I am really pumped about it and had to share.

Shane, Willim, AngryWilliam, anti Norton man, whatever your name is now. I have been running Norton antivirus since 2002 it does not slow me down that much, sure your speed is slowed down a bit, but what if you let your guard down by not using it and you lose all of the files on your hard drive? Is that worth it to you? Like I said, have you went to the Microsoft.com site and read their security page?

Yeah like I said I save my data on different drives than my prime, and use ghost for quick reinstalls. Seeing that I get allot of data corruption from pushing my computers just too damn far. like I said just a bit before I haven’t personally have had a experience to warrant me using a av on a full time basis for the time and if I do get smacked ( and I know I had it coming) then I might change my mind. But for the time being those few more free cycles per second win out, I also used to run the "classic" windows GUI for the longest time as well to save a few more clock cycles per second. When I have an experience to warrant using one I most likely will, for now I cant stop seeing it as a system drain. And for browser security just use mozilla 1.6 or firefox and that would get rid of that issue for the most part. And yes, I have read the three step to guarding yourself on the Microsoft update site shortly after it was posted, don’t think too much of it. and I have to say we have had a good argument, and it was enjoyable

Angry, You sound like a gamer, do you use your machine for video games? Those are the only folks that care more for speed verses security. If you use your computer to surf the net and open email you should be running spyware and antivirus everyday. All I am saying to you is this, just because you do not use these programs does not mean you should tell others to follow you. Look at RickyJo, if Raven would not have given him that "FREE SOURCE" for the antivirus he would still have a trojan horse on his box.

i care about my frame speed :) i'm not *much* of a gamer. i just have a 266Mhz procesor so i need to care ^-^

ricky jo WOW you know you can build a box these days on the cheap if you go with a athlon xp chip. I used to game allot, a carry over from college. I am just a really hard core performance user. I do a good amount of Photoshop and am thinking of trying 3d rendering, so it's more for app performance than anything else. The newest game I play is morrowind (good rpg). ricky jo, I don’t know how much of a do it yourself-er you are... but I just parts together a [i:7f9d3fad3a]very nice[/i:7f9d3fad3a] athlon xp 2800+ ( can be over clocked over a 3200+) system for $1100 everything is there a nice crt (19") KBM I mean everything but the case. All you need is a slotted and Philips screw drivers. http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=790678 if you do alittle reading you can easly overclock that system to a 3200+ just off of the FSB in the bio's I put a heat sink in there that will more than handel the added heat.

The way things are going you will have to buy a new computer every 2 years just to load the operating systems and new software on. If someone is not as talented as you Angry, one who builds his own computer, why not just buy some cheap box at the store for $500.00 You can get a fast box and add memory to it for $50.00 I would not build my own box because I do not have the knowledge Angry. Computers are so cheap today that you can get most of what you need for under $700.00, the LCD monitors are more expensive than the computers now. Now gamer computers with see thru cases and all those fans, that is another story.

i would love a neat-o case like that, but really i just want some memory! the last computer i tinkered with i insinerated, Angry, but now i understand them well enough. this computer is a laptop. but yeah, if i got a nice processor i could buy a computer from a neighbor for 40 bucks put so much memory it would never run out (i have sticks and sticks of it lying around) and put in the nice procesor and turn that 98 machine into something worthy of gaming on. oh, well, a harddrive would be nice too. if anybody wants to send a hard drive with an operating system to me i could probably revive an old computer i blew up.

True you could buy a cheap box every two years, but it was fun learning how to put the computer together and looking for conflicts. For out of the box I like HP and Alienware, HP is just a really solid pc and Alien because they don’t use oem motherboards and crap so you have a better chance of upgrading it for longer.
